Ramneek Trehan has a background in accounting that has taken him around the world but, since 2009, he has called Edmonton home. He was born in India and worked there until 2003, before relocating to the United Kingdom for six years.
Ramneek met and married his wife, Mamta, in India and they moved to Edmonton together in 2009 with big dreams (Mamta had already been living in the city since 2007). “This is a land of opportunities,” says Ramneek, “so the sky’s the limit here. There’s no ending to what you can do.” Ramneek had obtained his Bachelor of Commerce from Punjab University, while Mamta had earned her Master's of Commerce from H.P. University. After working at different accounting firms, Ramneek joined Mamta in opening their own firm in Edmonton in 2009: Trehan & Company.
Now, the company has expanded to include three branches in Edmonton. Mamta manages the south side location, and spends most of her time working there, although she will help out at the other offices when needed. Handling both personal and corporate taxes, as well as some book keeping, allows Mamta to spend time with clients, which is her favourite part of the job. She also appreciates the opportunity to continue learning as government regulations are constantly updated. “Every year, you have to learn new things,” she says.
