The opening of Maunder’s Food Shop was not without its challenges. Linda Maunder was pregnant with her second child with husband and co-owner Tim in 1991, and the two faced delays in construction on the shop.
“The store opened two weeks late, I was two weeks early,” Linda remembers with a laugh. “Tuesday we opened. Saturday I said to my husband ‘I can’t come into work. I think I’m in labour.’ Sunday night I had the baby. I was out of the hospital Monday. And Wednesday I was back in the store with the baby.” This ‘go get ‘em’ work ethic and mentality that Linda still carries with her is what has brought Maunder’s Food Shop success over the years, as well as a dedicated following of customers ― some of whom have shopped at her store since its opening.
