    Not worth it

When we arrived for the Sunday "Steak and Seafood" buffet, our reserved table was not ready. We were told they had only noted on the reservation that they would "try" to seat our party of 6 together (try? really? 6 is not that large a party and we certainly weren't told that). So we had to wait in the small entranceway where food was being served (looking at the "limit of 12 oysters per person please" sign at the station and being in other customers' way as they tried to access the food. I realize they are not normally set up to do buffets in the restaurant, but the lobby is definitely not the place to put a station!). We were told by the assistant manager that the people at our table had been there for 3 hours, but the assistant manager didn't feel comfortable telling them that another party was waiting for the table (however they were obviously perfectly comfortable asking us to wait - without offering any accommodation for the inconvenience). Personally, if I had been at a table so long and someone told me another party was waiting, I'd be apologetic for not realizing I'd been there that long! We found the food overall was perfectly adequate. I wouldn't call it stellar - some of the dishes were nice, but the vaunted one lobster per person was very overcooked and rubbery for 5 out of the 6 members of our party. I agree with the previous reviewer that serving unpeeled shrimp for the peel and eat portion is fine, but the marinated and cooked shrimp, while tasty, should definitely have been peeled. They were messy and unpleasant to eat, which rather detracted from the nice taste. We found dirty plates at the hot buffet and warm plates at the salad bar. When the website advertises "the finest in Mediterranean Dining" and the prices are on the higher side, I expect a higher level of service and quality, and I didn't experience it. I used to live in Niagara and have been to the owners' sister restaurant, the Lake House, many times and while I thought it too was a bit pricey for the food quality, at least the beautiful lake view was some justification and the service was always consistently friendly and excellent. The Stone House just doesn't measure up to the hype they post on their website. This was my first visit and I doubt I'll be back.

Does not live up to the hype

I had heard of this restaurant through a few friends who recommended the Sunday Buffet. We booked a reservation for 6 on Saturday evening for Sunday Buffet @ 6pm. Our table was ready, the server was friendly and offered us tap or bottled water. I'm not sure if there was a real difference, flat or gas perhaps? but we settled on simple tap water. While being seated the hostess asked if we had been before for the buffet - and we had not, she said our server would explain all details Our server gave us water and left, no explanation or further questions of about ordering wine & beer. The buffet is set up in a very strange way, as through they moved tables for seating and simply placed the hot trays on them. The gentleman plating food for steak were very pleasant and wished us a lovely meal. The seafood is located at the front door - right where customers walk in. Our server informed us there is a limit of 1 lobster per customer and any additional requests for lobster would be added to our bill - this was not referenced on the website or when I called to reserve. Not to sound like a complete glutton - but when dining with some young men who are looking forward to lobster... 1 may not be enough. None of the shrimp were pealed - cook or raw. Why marinate the shrimp with sauce and put them on the grill if they have to be pealed right after? The food was adequate, Id stay away from the pasta since it sits in the hot tray and becomes over cooked & soggy. The only vegetables available are carbs - potatoes & rice... with the exception of caesar salad. Come the end of our meal our servers only concern was taking the seafood crackers away from our table, often leaning across as we ate. My expectations were not high as it is an "all you can eat" for $35 a person, however the food & service is below average. I was embarrassed to have brought a part of 5 with me and will not be returning.

    Good Food, Great Service!

Chicken and couscous was excellent and portions were quite large. Spinach salad appetizer was fine but a bit boring. It could use something more than just spinach and a few bits of goat cheese, but the flatbread appetizer was delicious. Service was very attentive.

    Great food

This was our third time here, but just went for our favourites and sat in the bar. The Calamari (off the regular menu) is the best in the city, with 3 exceptional dipping sauces and a generous portion. The Scallops off the tapas menu were served over a mouthwatering Cassoulet. They really know what they are doing in the kitchen!
