Breakfast. The place to go if you want eggs at 2PM! Love it.
We have been to many breakfast places in Toronto and this is a family favourite. The eggs benedict with smoked salmon is outstanding, with smoked salmon, capers and red onions with an amazing Hollandaise sauce. The servers are busy but have come to know us and are are very friendly and keep our coffee cups full. The side of grated potatoes is much lighter and tastier than hash browns or potatoes that most places serve. The only downside is that it can be a bit crowded and noisy and, in winter, do not sit by a heater or you will broil.. This is one place that could expand and do even better.
My family and I have been going to Creme de la Creme since it opened. We were repeat customers, but this is no longer the case. My family and I decided to go to Creme de la Creme on a Saturday afternoon to enjoy their all day breakfast. I ordered the meatless breakfast. Much to my surprise, as I was eating the hashbrowns that accompany the breakfast I ordered, I discovered a hair in them. I quietly took my platter to the back counter and informed our waitress of my finding. When I returned to my table I was followed by the owner's daughter Nancy who asked me to locate the hair for her in my hashbrowns. I showed her the hair. She then left the table and returned again, this time with the hair on a napkin and informed me that no one in the kitchen had the colour of hair that was found in my food. Nancy then accused me of having put the hair in the hashbrowns myself. I was appauled by Nancy's accusation. I have short black hair, the other two people at my table have long blonde hair. The hair found in my hashbrowns was brown and of medium length. Rather than being apologetic, Nancy took an accusatory approach and informed us that when other customers find hair they simply push it to the side of the plate, continue eating and say nothing. Nancy also informed me that when dinning out one must be prepared to find things in one's food. I was surprised and upset by the manner in which the situation was dealt with. A simple apology would have sufficed. I was extremely disappointed with how I was treated, and I will not be returning to this establishment.
A family run bistro with real home cooking. I estimate there is seating for about 45 people. I've been there many times and the food is excellent. The food is excellent, the pancakes divine and the portions are generous. I have friends who trek into Toronto for repeat visits. It's very busy on the weekends and service can be quite slow. There is also a "light" breakfast menu. The only downfall is the coffee, which I find weak and occasionally not terribly fresh. This is more than made up for by everything else. I go whenever I can.
