Great service,I had the lamb 3 weeks ago and last week I had the classic fish and chips..Wow I love how they fried the fish,not to mention the fish portion , we had the pleasure of getting the front row of this new singer Dale Luarca love all his song especially.when he sung my requested song.will for sure go back anytime ?soon
We held a 70 birthday celebration indoors June 23. Service was amazing, including delicious chocolate cake as well as interesting drinks and Greek food. It felt as if we had a private dining area overlooking Lake Ontario! A super summer day memory. Wonderful Experience!
There was nothing horribly wrong with my experience(s) here, but there was certainly nothing positive either. The meal was ho hum, the service was on the slow side, and the prices were a bit steep for what you got. Think I'll pass on this one.
we had our first visit back at barangas the service was great, love the greek menu, service sometimes a bit slow when busy but that's ok and well worth the wait. plan to spend many summer evenings on the patio again this summer
Great place for a date night! I had gone before with a group of buddies and we had an awesome time! Took my girlfriend this time and had an ever better time. Service and atmospher were great as usual. I ordered the lamb burger instead of my usual gyro. It was good, but I love the gyro. My girl friend had the soup and Greek meze platter and loved it. Not sure about the negative experiences reviewed, but this is one of my favorite spots and I have never had a bad experience at Barangas.
What a wonderful restaurant! We all enjoyed the food, the service was wonderful and the location and atmosphere is amazing! Certainly didn't feel like we were in Hamilton:) Looking forward to visiting again over the summer!
Good Greek food! Great View! Good Service! Can't wait for the weather to get better to visit again and sit on the Patio on the Beachfront!!
POSITIVES: - Great view beside Lake Ontario - Nice patio beside the Waterfront Trail - Side of beet salad w/ fish and chips was a bit good NEGATIVES: - Shared the Feta al Forno with dinner party, for $12 it was too small (two thin slices of tomato topped with bits of Feta and four small slices of jalapeno) with 8 small, dry pieces of bread (untoasted). It wasn't explained that the appetizer was so small - Fish was a little dry and the chips tasted frozen - The service was very disappointing. Waited 10 minutes for our drinks and another 15 for our shared order of the Feta al Forno, it took 30 minutes after the appetizer was delivered for the mains to arrive, had to ask twice for condiments, napkins, more water. After eating, we expressed our disappointment with the meal to a waitress and we were challenged because we finished it (One hour after first sitting down, we didn't want to send it back because it took so long to get, just wanted to eat and get out - we should have said something earlier granted, but the waitress was very defensive). Waited another 15 mins after finishing in order to get our bill and get change back. CONCLUSION: I would love to go back because it has such a great view, but won't go until food and service improves dramatically. For the prices that are being charged, either lower the prices slightly or increase the portion.
went there for luch with my daughter in law and 3yr old grandaughter, we waited 20 minutes for a drink order to be taken, no water offered, another 50 minutes for our food, brought wrong salad with chicken,gyro was tough, and no kids menu, small bowl of pasta for 3yr old was 9.00, food was terrible, our bill was 88.00 for horrible lunch, they did not even had sprinkles for ice cream after waitress offered them, we will never return to this dump.
I'm having a hard time agreeing with the negative reviews. I was very pleased with my meal. It's a big menu, so it's always hard to judge on one dish. It's predominantly Mediterranean with a Canadian twist, not the same ol' same ol'. Pricey indeed, but what place isn't these days? My waitress was also very lovely. Really friendly, and advised well in our choices. My table was also lakeside. Say what you will about the Hamilton beaches... it's fun to pretend! The patio area is lovely and I hope to return.
I strongly felt that the money I spent at Barangas I could have got more quantity of food at Sotiris in Burlington. The only good thing Barangas has going for it is its location and view of Lake Ontario.
As always, the view is incrediable! Although I have been going there for years and always had the same dish (chicken souvlaki), I decided to try one of their new dishes, lamb shanks....incrediable!!! Service is always friendly! A great night overall!
We have been to this restaurant several times and after reading the reviews I felt compelled to comment. This is a very big and busy restaurant, so yes at times there is a wait. However, it is totally worth the wait!!! They have an amazing patio facing the lake! We always enjoy the food, especially the salad combinations and the service is always friendly. We can't wait for it to open every summer!! It truly is Hamilton's diamond in the rough! I think that the people who have walked away with a negative experience are truly only a few. Our entire family and friends all love Barangas.
In a nut shell the service was slow and rude, as was the manager. the Food was either burnt or cold and the deck was full of smoke. would not visit again.
I've been to Barangas in the past and have always enjoyed myself. The food can be great or ho-hum depending what has been ordered. The fried calamari appetizer was ordered by someone at our table. I've had it in the past but this time, the serving size had shrunk considerably and the person who ordered it said it was cold. I ordered the baked feta/spinach pasta. The plate was too hot to touch and the pasta the lukewarm. Our meals were served to us by the bus boy and she didn't bother to serve us individually. It was up to the table to pass the meals to the proper recipients. 3 of the people ordered Greek salads which were served minus the black olives. Menu description said greek olives. Took forever to flag down the waitress to get a community pot of olives. Of the 6 people at the table, only the 2 people who ordered the chicken souvlaki were happy with the meal. All in all, it was a disappointing night and I am 50/50 on thoughts of returning. Average meal per person was $30.00. I'm hesitant to fork out that much again and experience another let down with the food and service. As other posters have said, the view is great but that in itself is not a reason to go back. Food and service must improve.
I've only been to this restaurant a couple of times but there is one consistency. The service is atrocious. I've never seen a wait staff that is so lazy and inattentive as they are here. We had appetizers and drinks. Although it was later in the evening we had called ahead to ensure the kitchen was still open and forewarn about the party size. We got seated and an initial order in. Then the waitstaff disappeared and could be seen gathered by the bar talking instead of looking after their tables. It took more than 30 minutes for someone to come by the table and that was flagging down a different waiter. It's a shame too, because the food is pretty decent and the location is excellent in the summer. If they only would get their waitstaff off their butts this place would be pretty good.
The service still suks We went there a few years ago and it seems some things don't change, the service still suks. The waitress, Emily, was very inattentive and could only take care of one table at a time. I see by other reviews that they need to train their staff more in the little things that make all the difference. Too bad because it is a great location and the menu seem good too, but it will be another few years before we return.
Took my husband for breakfast for his birthday. Big mistake, the omellet came out greasy as were the potatoes. The fruit looked a little old so I didn't want to try it. I am not sure what they did for the peppers and onions in the egg but it had a very wet and bland taste as well. The bacon was very dry and hard. My husbands poached eggs tasted of vinegar that they obviously used in the pot to keep the eggs together while poaching. Nothing could be blamed on being busy because we were the only ones there. The server was fine and had asked if everything was okay. I did tell her the meal was greasy but they did not offer any compensation at all. The response was "okay". It was a very expensive and disappointing meal. I would never recomment this as a place for breakfast. The one good comment I can make is the view is beautiful.
had a great time at barangas again this weekend. visited about 4 times this summer. overall its been good but this last visit was fantastic. the sevice was great and all the food was perfect. the kids love to run around on the beach and it gives us time to relax and have a drink while enjoying the view.
I visited the restaurant because of the location, it is very nice, however, we had to leave because of poor service. We went for brakfast and got a table with a nice view of the water. The waitress did not come for 1/2 hr and we noticed that only two staff were serving about 15 tables. After the wait, the waitress asked whether we were given menus and indicated that it was someone else's job. We were served coffee and juice which took another 1/2 hr. Milk and sugar never arrived in spite of several requests. It was funny to watch guests walking up and down picking up milk and sugar from other tables. We noticed that a number guests who arrived before us were not served. At this point, I calculated the cost for the coffee and juice we ordered, left the cash on the table & left. Will never visit this place again. Note to the owner: If you are understaffed, either inform the guests at arrival or only accpet through reservation. You are better off closing for a session rather than keeping it open.
