We love to eat at the Modern India Buffet. It's so close to where we live and it's a favourite place to take friends. There is a great variety of foods and it's a chance to try new things that you might not normally order off the menu at a regular Indian restaurant. Also the price is fantastic for what you get. I'm happy to eat there any time the opportunity presents itself.
Dined here a few times when I want Indian food. The food is good and enough to satisfy your cravings. Fairly priced. Atmosphere is comfortable and staff are helpful. Will come back when I occasionally feel Indian cuisine.
my sister and husband went against what they heard about this place putting chemicals in the food that bloats you after 1 medium size plate. Well they were told and i feel no guilt since they new what they were getting involved with.
Modern India in Hamilton is a true wonderful dining experience. I’ve been going to this restaurant for many years and through it was about time that I wrote a review. I’ve been to many Indian restaurants over the years and this one stands head and shoulders above them all. The friendly staff is always a pleasure to talk to and learning about their culture just makes the whole experience more enjoyable. The food is by far the best Indian food that I have ever had. The selection and the flavour are just incredible. I’m wowed every time I go there. The chefs take a lot of time and consideration when filling the buffet and don’t just over fill it so their work is easier but they fill it on a continuous basis, therefore the food remains fresh and flavors are never bland. The things that stand out even above the incredible food is how clean the place it. Tables and chairs are always kept clean, glasses, plates and silverware are always sparkling and the staff does a wonderful job in cleaning your table as you leave for another helping. The goat curry and the butter chicken are by far my favorite out of the entire buffet. However, every time I go I try to make a point of starting off with something I’ve never had. My fiancé and I have celebrated our last 2 anniversaries at Modern Indian. It is by far our favorite place to go in the whole world and every time we go it seems to always be a busy crowd there which goes to show that I’m not the only one that thinks this place is amazing. Thank you kindly to all the staff for numerous great evenings with my fiancé, friends & family.
What chemical can you put in food that makes you fell stuffed/bloated after 1 plate of food? This used to be my restaurant of choice until I bought a take out of butter chicken and naan bread only. I had to eat my take out in 4 sittings as I was soooo bloated/stuffed each time before. I ended up haveing to make myself get sick to feel better. The food ministry should really be looking into this without a doubt.
Wow this place is going down hill. Food was starting to seperate from lack of refreshing/stiring. Two young female waitress were sitting on bar counter watching t.v. and chatting all the time while our plates were piling up and drinks empty. They walked so slow I think they were shuffling their feet. What ever happened to the original owner that ran a tight ship and always walking around the Buffet refreshing/stiring everything?
Very good Indian food. Not the best I've ever had, but probably the best Indian buffet I've been to. Not a bad selection, all the curry staples plus a few house extras.
My boyfriend and I went here last night, we both like Indian food and thought we would give this place a try. We were surprised at how great the price was for the dinner buffet ($13.99 each), which included a drink (pop, etc.) or if you wanted a beer or wine, you just had to add $2.00 which we thought was a great deal. The food was amazing, I especially liked the vegetable chana and the butter chicken. My boyfriend loved the Beef Rogan Josh and the naan bread was amazing. The restaurant was about half full, and we both commented at how fresh the food was and how often the staff were bringing out new pans of food to replenish the buffet. The service was excellent as well, our server was friendly and prompt.
Our bill for two of us was $36.00 (i had a glass of wine, and he had 2 beers). We thought that it was excellent value, great food, and great service. We will definitely be back!!
It was my first time going to an Indian buffet and my boyfriend happened to spot this one while we were in Hamilton. I have to say it overall it was a satisfying experience!
For the price, there were so many interesting and appetizing choices and we couldn't stop exclaiming how delicious everything was! The service was great as well, very kind, caring and hospitable.
One of the best naan I have ever had, and really good sweet and sour beef! i even tried goat for the first time and actually enjoyed it :) We tried almost everything and enjoyed every bit of each dish!
The place was overall clean, nice and welcoming. I also liked how they played Indian music in the background. Felt very authentic and exotic!
This place was awesome. Ive never had indian food before and im seriously addicted. This dude has the best butter chicken, im seriously craving it right now. The atmosphere was clean and the people who were serving us were real nice. They refilled our glasses regularly and asked us how everything was. I will definitely go back to this place more often!
They have moved to 183 Main street at the corner with Caroline street. Other than the Nan bread, all the dishes on the buffet had no taste. All curries have been watered down and were cold. Will never return to this place.
i used to enjoy going here as it was a good price and a convienient location. the selection is small for a buffet (which can be a good thing) on my last visit i enjoyed my food until the second trip up when i noticed all the flies on some of the food which killed my appetite. not sure if ill go back.
It is my opinion that Crush is not a troll. It appears that he has been to quite a few restaurants and many have been given favourable reviews by himself.
First of all, I went to eat at this restaurant when they were at their location on Walnut Ave. It was a great experience. I then went my myself on Thursday, January 7, 2010 and it was once again a favourable experience. I can make better butter chicken but it was still a good dish here.
My wife and I went last night and it simply wasn't as good as my previous two visits. The price is too much for what you get. None of the dishes were really exceptional and the spinach was awful. The diet Pepsi was watered down. There really isn't any excuse for that.
A few of the dishes were pretty cold, not warm as most of the dishes should have been. It seems that not much care was taken there as well.
If you want a great introduction to Indian food you should try this restaurant. We are not normally fans of the buffet style but we make an exception here.
The food is authentic and there is plenty of variety at the table. The dishes are labeled letting you know the name and heat intensity of each dish.
The dining area is clean and modern with very comfortable seating. The staff are always friendly and accommodating. The washrooms upstairs could use an major overhaul as they are looking quite dated. Parking is easy to find on the street in front of the restaurant or just around the corner.
We always have a great time here and have introduced several people to it and all have made return visits.
The bill for 4 people including one beer each and a tip was $70. Make sure you are hungry before going as there are many dishes available.
Great selection of tasty indian food. As with most indian buffets I have been to, it's hard to limit yourself to just one plate. Great value especially considering the free pop!
Great for trying a variety of foods. But I always find that buffets are never as good as ordering individual dishes. However, this is good for first time Indian dinners since the foods are not overpowered with flavour.
The place was spotless and with nice modern decor. The service was also very good and friendly.

I did not like Indian food at all until I was dragged to Modern India, in it's old Main & Walnut location, a couple years ago... and now I LOVE it!
The selection of food has decreased since it's move, but the quality is still just as great --fantastic even! In my personal opinion, best Indian food I have had since opening up my palet to this type of cuisine!
Definately worth checking out, and certainly worth the price! Probably best Butter Chicken out there!
It's so good, I've even purchased Gift Certificates as gifts!

My husband and I go to the Modern Indian Buffet about once a month. We absolutely LOVE it. There is a good selection of dishes. As a vegetarian I find it quite easy to eat my fill and don't have a problem identifying the dishes. My husband adores the butter chicken too. The naan bread is always warm and soft and they maintain a fresh supply of all the dishes. I can't comment on the dessert as I've never made it that far. The food is just too good we are always beyond stuffed by the time we walk out. If you're a beer drinker, I recommend asking for the Indian beer they carry. It compliments the meal well.
The atmosphere is nice and open and the restaurant has always been clean. The only complaint I have is the bathrooms are up the stairs and I haven't seen an elevator. If you're bringing someone elderly or not very mobile, this may pose a problem. The wait staff are very friendly and always have the dirty plates cleared off your table by the time you return with your second helping. We love this restaurant and recommend it to everyone who loves Indian food or who may never have had it before and want to try it. The price can't be beat.
