Decided to take my family out for dinner and was very disappointed with rude management and long wait for food, Did not enjoy at all. Will not be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did not see much more indian restaurant in Hamilton since I came over in Canada. But at the end , I had found Shehnai Restaurant for indian cuisine. I went for dinner first time with friends. When we entered , we were feeling like we were sitting in esteem atmosphere. We started with the crispy “Pappadum” and some kinds of “green sauce”. That was awesome and delicious. The Butter Chicken and Kadhai Paneer are outstanding and we have no words for explaining how the garlic bread taste is. That reminds me when I went for dinner in india. The price of foods are reasonable so everyone can offered it. It is not only best for food but it has one of the finest customer service I have ever seen till now. The manager and his co-staff are very polite and friendly with an each and every customer. they welcomed back to the restaurant soon was exceeding. They are working hard to keep the place neat and clean.
the shehnai restaurant has been running for almost 23 years and it deserves to be, its the best Indian food iv ever had A MUST GOOO!!!!!
The Shehnai Restaurant is one of my favourite Indian cuisines in all of Hamilton. I have been visiting this restaurant about once a month since 2006. My partner had never tried Indian and as a recommendation from my brother we went to the Shehnai Restaurant for some Indian cuisine. The dishes are plentiful, always enough to feed me twice (dinner and then lunch the next day), and always enough for my 6’5” partner to leave full. The prices are more than reasonable, having an appetizer, 2 full dishes and garlic naan bread for around $35. The always arising issue of the “spice” factor is not a problem here. You can order to your taste and always be sure you will get what you asked for. Not only does the food do this restaurant justice, but its staff members and owner make the experience worth going back. After taking a break from the restaurant, (at no fault of the restaurant itself) after about a year, I bumped into the owner in Burlington,(whom I only knew from eating there frequently) he recognized me and asked me some personal questions about things we had talked about while I was dining there. He welcomed me to come back to the restaurant soon and was very friendly and polite. The fact that the owner himself knew who I was and recognized me outside of the establishment made me think he took care in knowing who his customers really are. My only real concern with the restaurant is that the outside location is not the most appealing. Going there late, or when it is dark is not overly comforting, the sign is a little run down and the area isn’t the best, however once you get inside you feel completely comfortable. In addition the restaurant has been freshly painted and new décor has been added. I have personally been to and revisited at least 3 other Indian restaurants in the city and by no means have I received the same service, quality and consistency then this restaurant.
The last people to review should try this place again. We start with crispy, delicious pappadum; like the best chips you've ever tasted. The butter chicken is the best. Not bland at all but not spicey hot either. The 2 lamb dishes I've had were excellent. Spice that builds up as you eat but addictively so, you can't stop eating. We get a little rice to go go with it but the nan is great to soak up the extra sauces. Both times we've taken enough home for lunch for 1.
My Family and I went to Shehnai Restaurant. We loved the food and the pricing was definity fare. If you are looking for something different to taste, you should try this restaurant. I will be back through the Holiday Season!
Been going here for a long time. In the past, everything tasted great. Everything was full of flavor. I'm not sure what happened, but now, everything is bland and the freshness of the food seems to have degraded substantially. Service has gone downhill as well, although it was never the greatest, it seems they're just not friendly at all anymore. Ordered on August 27, 2011. Young guy who took my order was totally not interested in being there and didn't care in the slightest. He tried ripping me off 2 dollars when I asked for my change. When I brought it up, he gave me my money without saying a word, I replied "Thanks" and he says "Yep"... They've lost a long time customer.
This was the worst curry my husband and I have ever tasted, and we have tried a lot. The meat wasn't cooked in the curry and was just boiled and then put into the sauce. My curry had no sauce what so ever, I asked for some curry sauce and was given a dish of watery frozen cooked veg with some packet curry watery stuff in it. My husbands lamb vindaloo was vile with the boiled lamb, and was way too hot even for vindaloo. The tandoori chicken wings to start were not tandoori. The service was bad and the waiter was very rude, and when he saw we hadn't even eaten it he didn't ask what was wrong and we had to pay 50 dollars which included two beers..how ever we did not leave a tip. My tip to you is do not go there...ever.
I've been eating here since 2001 and have never been disappointed. Best Channa ever! LOVE their Kashmiri Rice! However, the Kashmiri Chicken is quite dull & tasteless. I've had better. Service is amazing! All the staff are extremely pleasant and have great personalities!
My Husband and I decided to try this restraunt because it was closer to hom then our usual place. When we got to the restraunt it was empty and quiet. The waiter helped us right away and we ordered our food. The food came to the table quickly and smelled very good. We were in the middle of our dinner and chatting about how good the food was when my husband noticed a bug on the wall beside him. Upon closer inspection it was a cockroach. I killed it with my napkin and we thought it was just a one off and continued eating. 5 minutes later 2 more appeared on the wall beside us and one crawled on to the table. I flipped my cup upside down on top of it just as the waiter came over to our table. I said to thewaiter we would like our bill and I then told him I had caught a cockroach on our table. He looked at the cup with the roach in it and said "We have been having a little problem with them" My husband just about lost his dinner, we paid our bill and left.
very good service good food and worth the trip to hamilton
We will continue to go back as it is not the ideal place but will leave just as soon as we find the best.
I ate a lot of indian food before, but nothing comes even close. The chicken korma tastes so good and the bread is just amazing. The place is also very cozy and clean. I am a loyal customer of the place. We go there almost every weekend.
We made reservation ahead. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time of arrival, the place is nicely decorated, it was our second visit we decided to bring out visitor from the U.S. The Big disappointment was the food items were luke warm to some items being cool. Even though we made a recommendation and waited about 10 min. only about two items were acceptably warm. Indian food taste best with its flavors at the right temperatures. The desserts were not really acceptable either. We didnot really leave satisfied.
The food was okay, not the best. But the service was rude and inconsiderate. I don't plan on bringing my family here again.
I have endulged in every offering on the buffet table and it is superb. My partner and I drive in from out of town (Niagara) every other week just to partake in their delicious food. The buffet table is not huge, but everything on it is prepared to perfection. The low price is a bonus to our experience and makes the drive worth our while.
I always enjoy sliding out to h-town and visiting the crew who makes the best chicken dhansak in the history of chicken dhansak. Usually its an international outing and i bring crews from Oakville and Burlington, and tourists from as far as Montreal and California...its such a solid spot, and you can have a Cheetah beer before enjoying your nan and fire chicken tikka masala...just ask the chief for full fire and he'll hook you up. The service is entertaining, the homeboys theres have a great sense of humor and can recommend a key spot to go after your meal to take a beer. The onion bhaji is money, and the butter chicken is heaven, and they make all dishes to whatever heat you like....GOLD!! I cant wait for another Shehnai outing, i have never brought anybody that wasnt a huge fan...see you there ! bejenen
I can only add positives to the comments above. The food is excellent and there is always a supply of Double Diamond on tap which I swear was created just to go with Indian. Having eaten at numerous Indian restaurants in the UK, I can say that the Shehnai is right up there with the best of them. The Lamb Dhansak is superb, as is the Lamb Koorai. All dishes can be spiced to the diner's request. Service can be occasionly a little slow depending on who's working that night.
Have been to Shehnai's many times. Food is always fabulous -- onion bhajis are the best outside of England. Willing to recommend dishes if you have not tried Indian cuisine before. Have brought company from England, and they were impressed. Service excellent, and they do not rush you (sometimes a bit of a problem when you are waiting for the bill...) Try their Irish coffee, you will be amazed at how good it is.
An excellent place, the staff are very nice and fall all over the place to take care of you. The food is good and each time is prepared just a little differently, which is nice because it adds to the experience. Been there many times!
