Pho Mai = great thai

My friend and I were craving Thai food a week ago. She has heard great things about Pho Mai through some friends. We decided to try it out based on that alone. This restaurant is very clean nicely decorated with modern furniture, fixings and decor. We were greeted immediately by a pleasant hostess who allowed us to sit where we pleased. The service was decent, very nice but each time we had to wait for our waitress, we had to wait an abnormally long time, even though it was not busy there at all. Our food came fast but we waited over half an hour for our drinks and had to ask for them twice. The fried spring rolls we ordered were amazing! The BBQ chicken and chicken pad thai were both equally delicious with slight sweet and tangy flavours. I hadn't tried rice noodles before and personally I did not like them, but they are not far from regular noodles, just a bit chewier. Overall, aside from the service, we had a great experience and I know that I will go back.

My husband and I have tried Thai food in over 15 different countries. I think the negative reviews here-particularly about cleanliness are inaccurate. The food is good and combined with the price and atmosphere I give it a B+. Wonton soup, Pad Thai and Shrimp fried rice are our favourite plates. Most Thai people in the service industry are very quiet and "modest," not to be confused with rude. I found the place clean and tidy, with a new paint job and relatively modern furnishings. And I am an Italian clean freak so trust my word. The most annoying thing about the place is that the pictures are hung too high up on the wall- the Asians think we're 10 feet ;) All in all and great "cheapy" Thai experience.

food wasn't bad hard to enjoy though while fighting off the many fruit flies and noticing the built up filth on the entire wall above our table made us wonder how dirty the kitchen was if they couldn't keep the dining room clean. Yuk ! Our tip for the waiter ...... clean the place up!
