Love the lemon chicken!
This place has taken a nose dive since Danny sold it. The new owner is more interested in being dressed in nice (slutty) clothes than running a business to the standard Danny set. Messed up pick-up orders, rude customer treatment and crappy food has lead this 20+ year customer to vow never again! Too bad as it used to be the best in Kitchener.
This place used to be good, decent food, decent prices, good personalities. This has all taken a dive, chicken balls are under-cooked dough with little chicken, rice is tasteless crap and prices are up. With all the Chinese choices in K/W, this should be yours out of desperation only and for no other reason
their food is too oily/greasy and ingredients aren't fresh. i heard of this place from a friend and had high hopes but was highly disappointed. the service is very minimal, and was slow the night we went. oh well, i still have my favourite to fall back on.
Mei King used to be THE Chinese food place in Kitchener; not sure what happened... new management, lost their cook?? I hadn't been there in a long time so I was looking forward to a nice meal with fresh ingredients but what we ended up with was not as expected. The food was horrible. Bland, greasy slop. The description no way matched the food--ingredients were missing or substituted. Both myself and my guest left 3/4 of our plates. The place used to be standing room only, but this time it was empty--only 4 tables filled. Guess that says it all. They've gone seriously down hill. Don't bother with the place any more
We ordered deliverary. The service was faster than expected. However, the food was not good. All the food tasted the same it was hot but tasteless. We would not order from here again!!!
My last two orders were combination plates, one with chicken balls and the other with sweet and sour spare ribs. The chicken balls were mostly dough with a tiny piece of chicken in them. The spare ribs were cartilage and batter with little to no meat, essentially inedible. The rest was just greasy. Have not tried individual dishes, but I'm not really encouraged to.
Minus the delivery charge this is a great place to order takeout from... My experience is that this restaurant is one of the best as far as Asian cuisine goes....
I've only eaten here twice. The first time, I found the Cantonese chow mein to be very bland. The second time, I tried the Singapore noodles. They were pretty good. The decor isn't much to behold, but the service was adequate. I may try them again.
The staff was great, but the dishes were all the same - same sauce, vegetables, the only difference was the meat.
HUH.so currently i am eating mei kings chikan fried rice and chikan balls and i have to say i can not rate the servise / atmpsphere because i got delivery whitch cost me $7:50 and the toatle came to $50:52 and the food taste FAIR and i have to disagree with that the batter on the chikan balls is thik it rather is an EXTREAM amount of chikan compared to batter and the chikan fried rice is quite good ( lol and i have found no cats in my meal ) but anyway i would say it has a 3 and a half on this meal out 10 on the D-MAN scale
dry brittle eggroll and the worst cantonese chow mein I ever had...we were the only ones there at lunch hour which should have told me something...never again!
It is nice to find a place that you can get in and out of quickly, and that serves fresh vegetables (which were cooked perfectly!) The spring roll was a little greasy, but the lo mein was good, too. A kind smile on the server and a bright interior made the trip one I'll make again.
We haven't been there for a few years. Maybe we just hit them on an off night but the food was absolutely vile. The soup had a strange 'canned' type flavour to it - not bad as much as strange, nearly disconcerting. The lemon chicken consisted of burnt batter with next to no chicken; three small pieces and tons of dry brown rice. The rice literally stunk of smoke - it was really odd. We had that smell with us for the better part of the evening. We've never really seen anything like it before and, quite frankly, would just as soon not in future. This place is definitely off our list.
Always assured of friendly service, great, hot food, ready quickly. Our family favourite for years!
Portions too small, chicken balls tasted like they'd been RE-fried, and since they were so busy when we visited, everything seemed thrown together really quickly like burgers at fast food joints.
Try the fried rice and lemon chicken and the egg rolls...superb
great food - chicken balls have lots of chicken - not just batter!!
Been coming to Mei King for years, & it's never been a disappointment. The food is excellent; quantities more than satisfactory. Love it, will defintiely return.
Fantastic food - best take-out in town. Have the Singapore Noodles.
