I can't see how anyone who visits this jewel, hidden in the corner of the plaza, would find any fault at all. I stumbled upon Dennis' little oasis about 5 years ago and it has become a weekly ritual. Jerk chicken is to die for. Ox tail is the best I have ever had for sure and the rice and peas stand up to any carribean resaurant in the GTA for sure. I have moved to Calgary and put my family as 1A and the Jerk Pit as 1B as things I miss the most. No Caribbean restaurant out here even compares.
The atmosphere felt rather cramped and the posters on the walls were a little unnerving...I don't need to see half-naked women when all I want is some Jamaican food! On the bright side, the service was nice, and the roti I got was surprisingly satisfying and a great portion for the price. I might come back if I'm in the area and my favourite sushi place is closed.
I ordered a curry chicken roti and it is absolutely horrible. The roti is flaky and dry and it is just not a real roti!! The chicken is too salty. I would never go back again.
I do not recommend this place to anyone. The food lacked the spices and flavors of real Caribbean food. It was very bland. A real disappointment.
I've taken out from The Jerk Pit more than 5 times but less than 10 times in the past year and a half. The owner Dennis is quiet but very nice. You will usually see people always coming and going with take out throughout the day. I always ask for extra extra gravy which is amazing. My bf and son love the jerk chicken and say it's always done just right. Two thumbs up from us :)
The food was amazing! some people are funny and are just going to find a fault, my family and i went /we enjoyed it the owners are downto earth and so is the food .we will sure visit again cheers bless
A quaint little shop found in the corner of a plaza... It had a homely atmosphere to it... but felt a little cramped. very quiet when i was there. I must say that the service was amazing!... and the amount of meat stuffed in the roti was a generous offering! The jerk chicken was just a little too salty for my taste. Overall, a good experience... I'd go back for more...
Tucked away in the corner of a plaza, the Caribbean Jerk Pit is a small, unassuming take-out joint. But don't let its obscurity discourage you, as it serves some of the best jerk chicken you'll find in the GTA. It's flavourful (but not too salty), juicy, and falls-right-off-the-bone. I also love their rice & beans and along with their gravy, is just absolutely delicious. The accompanying coleslaw is light, but complements the mains perfectly. Had take-out here over 5 times and the food has been pretty consistent. For those seeking quality Caribbean food for value, this is certainly a reliable place to go to.
okay... when it comes to jerk chicken /w rice or rice and peas.. what separates one from another is the ability to actually put ox tail gravy (and a substantial amount at that) when asked, on the rice. now, not only was my rice SMOTHERED in delicious ox-tail gravy, but it tasted absolutely amazing. the chicken was spiced perfectly and the meat was so tender that it almost just fell off the bone when you picked it up. if you are another Caribbean restaurant and are reading this, take the tips.. jerk chicken should NEVER be dry, and the gravy on the rice should always be plentiful and never just oil that is spooned from the top. these people aren't scared of putting a little extra into their meals and THAT my friends, is what will make you go back. cheers!
this place is horrible, the food is awful its either overcooked, overspiced or not cooked at all. it isnt even traditional jamaican/caribbean food, its a disgrace. not recommended at all.
this place is amazing what a deal what great food what great service what great jamaican jerk chicken and i will be going back soon
The Carribean Jerk Pit was excellent. The dishes were great carribean fare and I would reccomend coming here. However, while WE enjoyed ourselves, many think the food here is too spicy and it has even made them feel sick... so if you're not accustomed to spicy food, I would stay away. This is not an eat-in place as it's small and there are few tables, but everything is fine 'to go'. Even though the menu is not large, it's well executed. It's mostly curries and stews served in roti or plain, and it's mostly meat.
