When Myriam Pelletier was in her late 20s, she was told that surgery would be her only relief from the chronic back pain she was suffering from as a result of scoliosis. “It was suggested I have spinal fusion surgery,” she recalls. “I didn’t want to go through that, and I ended up finding Pilates about two years after.”
The discovery changed Myriam’s life: practicing Pilates enabled her to avoid surgery. The profound impact it had on her health led to an interest in training as an instructor so she started out teaching at different studios before making the decision to take on her own students. She initially offered classes out of her home before opening The Loft Pilates Studio’s first location.
The Loft has been in the Junction since 2008. It boasts a bright, open space with plants on window sills, tucked in corners and hanging down from the ceiling. As Myriam puts it, “This is really more a healing space than anything else.”
