Overall, Al Madina is a decent place to grab some takeout food from. The food is quite delicious most of the time, but sometimes, they would be out of rice, or other menu items. I believe myself to be relatively well versed in (Canadian) shwarma, and out of all of the shwarma places I've been to, Al Madina's cannot be beat in terms of the taste alone. However, there are many catches. Firstly, the food is very expensive for the style of eatery it is. A plate shwarma costs over $13 (with everything) and since a month or so ago, additional types of sauces cost 75 cents extra. The serving is adequate, but I wouldn't say that it is worth $13 + extra for sauce. Secondly, there's the service. Depending on who your server, the portion of the food can vary greatly. Whom I think is the current owner, gives out the smallest portions. Some of the servers are not very friendly. Lastly, did I mention how expensive it is? They removed the double shwarma sandwich for $10 deal. (I think it was 10 bucks, anyways)
I recall when this restaurant opened about 2 decades back. There was much more competition in the locale and as such the standards of this enterprise were much higher. When one of the owners passed away things began to slide. Now the buffet is scarce and tired, the service is non-existent, the prices not advertised hit you like lead when you go to pay. They have even stopped selling at the Waterloo Market now from what I can see. At one time I would come down to visit (about a two hour drive) and always pick up a few of their more notorious dishes, but not now. The hygiene is questionable inside the establishment as well which leads me to wonder how it has come to such a state. Perhaps the second generation does not care as much as their parents and can't be bothered to put any effort into the business. Then again it may be a cultural thing? Don't know what it is that has ripped this place from being spectacular at one period in time to the disgrace it has become, but it is not worth the bother to return unless there is a 180 degree shift in cleanliness, hospitality, better selection, fresher food, and better pricing.

I went in looking to try their Falafel's I have heard so much about but they were just plain out but the very personable server suggested I try a Chicken Shuarma and boy was he right. This pita dish melted in my mouth and was fresh, tasty and fulfilling. I enjoyed a Mango drink with this and it accented it perfectly. Hats off to the service person for a great suggestion and a fantastic personality. Great friendly service and very appealing food. Thanks for a great evening!
I came here on a Saturday night with a group of friends for the very first time, and boy was it worth it! Irresistable food (and a nice variety of it, including several of their home-made sauces, fresh salads, chicken, lamb, falafel, etc.). The service was excellent, we were made to feel like we were at home. Their egyptian tea is wonderful. Will definitely be back thats for sure!
The buffet table consisted of a couple small tables with only a few items to choose from. The deserts options (both of them) were on a table in another part of the restaurant beside the mismatched plates. It is partly my fault for going to an Egyptian restaurant knowing that I don't like Egyptian food, but still I must say it was bad, and the home-fries were soggy. There is hardly any service here, so you'd better expect empty plates and water glasses while you eat. There isn't nearly enough quantity or quality to warrant a $14.68 bill, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, even if you like Egyptian food.
Their food is good, and I say good because the quality is inconsistent, one day its really good and one day its not so good... So Average is good. Apart from that, the service is non-existent, and therefore terrible. I think they leave their kitchen doors open so by the time you get out, you totally smell like food for another few hours at least. Also, their menus and falling apart and extremely dirty, they look so dirty I can't help it but this the toilet seat in my place has less germs than their menu. I have been there a few times, and I will go when I am absolutely craving their food that I don't care about anything else! Which is like once a year.
They have THE BEST PITA...once you eat..you`ll fall in love with this food!!!THE BEST HUMMUS from all over the world...if you miss this restaurant..YOU`LL BE SORRY!!!THE BEST OWNER!!!
Awesome friendly service. We felt at home. The owner made us feel very welcomed and the food was delicious!
The food was AMAZING!!!.... You feel as though someone transported you to Egypt in order to enjoy their traditional cuisine. I was surprised that it wasn't spicy. I can't wait to go back. A must try. The BEST tasting food. The owner is friendly and came out to talk to us. I will definately go back.
I traveled all the way from London, Ontario to eat here. Without a doubt, the most irresistable mouth-watering pitas I've ever had (and I've had many pitas from many restaurants across the nation).
This was my third time at the Just n Pita and I loved it. The shawerma there is the best I've ever had and I love there hummus. The staff was friendly and I'm sure I'll be back...
YUM YUM YUM !!! I was in a rush and ordered my usual chicken schwarma. It was ready when I picked it up and my goodness it was sooo delicious. Topping and ingredients that I have never thought would give are fantastic. I didnt even mind the overwhelming onion and garlic breath I get after I finish a Pita!!!!
I will travel very far for the hummus. The red pepper hummus is my favourite. It is unlike any hummus. The baklava is also the best I have ever had.
This was a quick dinner, so we went to the rear of the building to the 'Just in Pita'. Many of you may know this part of the restaurant. As usual the folks there were extremely polite and courteous. Everything was fresh and exceptionally tasty. Moreover, the friendly banter just takes fast food to a fun level. I would recommend this to anyone on the run and needing a quick bite in the waterloo area.
This was our second time here, and this visit was not at all like the first. Our server really pushed the buffet, saying that if we wanted it, we could just help ourselves. We decided that we would get the buffet, and ended up never seeing our server again for the whole meal. One member of our party had to go the the take out counter at the other end of the place to get drinks, and we had to find someone to give us the cheque. The server just disappeared. The food was not bad, but nothing spectacular. The hummus was the only item worth getting seconds. It also would have been nice to have labels on the dishes to indicate what was being served.
This place is fantastic. It's like eating at their own homes. The staff is wonderful.
Great food. Good atmosphere. I'll definitely be back, and spreading the word.
the food was fresh and the taste was amazing. The service was unbelievable, and the staff have a very warm sense of humour. The atmosphere of family is overwhelming and allows one to feel welcome as if he were in their own home.
The food is truly amazing. Its taste is a piece of art. The service was good. Because the restaurant is owned and operated by its owner and the owner's family it really makes you feel like at home.
