Do you enjoy a really high markup on wine? As in, $16/glass from a bottle that costs $19 at the LCBO? Do you enjoy poorly made salads? How about small pieces of salmon on a mound of really spice rice and chickpeas, so spicy you cant eat? Sound good? Add a price tag of $50 for that mess, and you have yourself an evening at Chatterpauls. Enjoy feeling like you made the worst decision about restaurants in years, cause you have!

Very nicely done main dishes. The roast beef "amuse bouche" was a nice touch. I do wish that these places would supply bread or buns when there's a group and it's a later dinner. I had the trout special, quite nice. The cooking was well done and the service was very good. However, it is very loud and the prices are high considering that the portion size is not that large. As well, the main dishes don't come with any vegetables so you have to order those separately, which drives up the price. The tea was cold, which I didn't appreciate.
I highly recommend this restaurant,everything was excellent.I do not know what happened to previous reviewer,but I found the front of the house provided great customer service. Meal was excellent
I love this place. I've been many times and have always been blown away by the food. It's imaginative, full of flavour and very well presented. Service has always been above average and most times the owner greets us at our table. One night I brought my nephew and they didn't have a table for us. We sat at the bar and eventhough the bartender was incredibly busy, she took the time to make my nephew a special drink. Another incident, the place was over-run with people, and our food took a while to come out to us. The waitress apologized profusely and comped our drinks and desert. Will definitely come back here and will always recommend to friends.
I have eaten here once before and enjoyed the food and decor but thought the service was slow and remember thinking the hostess had attitude. Today I had confirmed to me that the problem with this restaurant is in the front of the house.. no issue with the food ... Left a message on their machine with all details for a reservation ..and thought I had better just check to be sure everything was set as we were meeting friends there for dinner. So you guessed it... no reservation , no explanation as to why someone would take a message and not bother to confirm one way or another if the reservation was good. I had assumed since I called early in the week that we were good.. Found the person on the phone to be snotty and not well schooled in customer service.. and the worst part is I think it was the owner... Will never go again.. I know too many other good restaurants who are interested in my business.
I recently had my wedding at Chatterpaul's in Whitby. From the initial moment of contacting Penny (owner) of Chatterpaul's I felt in good hands. When discussing wedding plans I found Penny to be extremely easy to talk to and she offers her professional opinion and suggestions wherever possible. We had a wedding of approximately 50 people and Penny worked her magic and managed to fit everyone in the smaller dining room. The food was piping hot and the kitchen staff delivered the food all within a minute or two to the entire room. The wait staff should be commended for their exceptional service. I would highly recommend having any event/staff party at Chatterpaul's. You will feel right at home and enjoy their excellent food. There is something for everyone on the menu! Penny, Chad and staff thank you so much for a great night. We will see you again shortly.
Chatterpauls is one of the best retaurants in Whitby; no matter what you order, you will not be disappointed; will certainly go back again and again.
Great place, what we want to see in Durham fine dining. Arrived with no reservations on Saturday of Labour Day weekend, so luckily none required, but make resos any other weekend evening. Loved the service, suggestive but not too upselly and he addressed questions well. The amuse bouche is a delightful, something to look forward to when you visit Chatterpauls and has never disappointed us. Apps were delivered very quickly and were very tasty. Sweet, small mussels and perfectly crisped shrimp with chunky salsa. Our mains took forever (the reason for our "adequate service" rating), but good wine and company helped... along with comped desserts without any word from us. This nod to quality service does not go unnoticed. The chicken parm was "nicely cheesy" and would be ordered again without hesitation. The chatter rib is a recommended speciatly, wonderfully spiced and melt in your mouth tender. Order it! Desserts were good... the creme brulee exquisite.. the cheesecake creamy, with a moist banana bread crust and garnish. We'll be back!
Fantastic food, service and ambiance. You won't be disappointed. From the time we arrived until we left, we were treated well by the wait staff. The food was fantastic. Appetizers and desserts were wonderful too!

If you are looking for a nice dinner out, don't go here. The food is disappointing and overpriced for what you get. The overall impression was that Chatterpauls prepares unimaginative dishes consisting of low cost ingredients and served by people who'd rather you just left. The service was just terrible, I try not to be so harsh since I was a server myself for 5 years as a student, but it was slow, rude, and had terrible timing. Our waitress nothing short of demanded our orders instead of asking, did not come to check up on how our meals where and was terribly slow at getting the meal. The food was worse i regret to say. Ordered the Mahi-Mahi... under cooked and over seasoned. All in all it was not a good experience and I'm sad that i wasted my family's time and our money at this place. We won't be going back
I disagree with every review here...food was nothing special, steak was over cooked the and service was definitely nothing to write home about. i consider Chatterpauls a wannabe shrimp cocktail. that was the first and last time i visit Chatterpauls.
