The two Fergus & Bix locations in southwest Calgary feature a friendly, neighbourhood pub atmosphere. Both serve craft beer and food made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. For owner Scott Shipley, it is a return to the basics. He built a successful chain of restaurant bars and sold it, but running a neighbourhood pub, he realized, was something he missed.
After moving to Calgary’s western suburbs, Scott became acutely aware there wasn’t a satisfying place to hang out with friends and family. “Scott and his brother Dan opened the Westhills Fergus & Bix to get back to that grassroots, community feel where you walk in the front door and you get that family vibe,” says Joel Paynter, Fergus & Bix operations manager and long-time member of Shipley’s team. That was 2008. They expanded to Marda Loop in 2011.
