At Faith Wallington’s used bookstore in Pitt Meadows, Tomes & Tales, there are signs that book reading is more popular than ever. Be it the three dozen genres of books including non-fiction she stocks, or the small kids absorbed in Franklin, Arthur and Magic School Bus adventures at the back of her store, or teens looking for a vampire horror story — books are flying off the shelves at Tomes & Tales. “Little kids are reading books, parents are buying books every day,” Faith says, and this is a sign the next generation will be readers as well, she adds.
Tomes & Tales can be found just off Ford Road in Pitt Meadows and walking in, you are overwhelmed by the thousands of books lining the shelves in genres ranging from chick lit to western, from historical romance to teen paranormal. Running her own business keeps Faith busy, so she really needs to pencil in time to read; as a bookstore owner it’s her responsibility to know her stock so she can help out her customers. “When people come in looking for something to read, I want to be able to recommend their next favourite book,” Faith says.
