“I used to be a realtor and many of my clients who moved to South Surrey would tell me that there aren’t any good-quality Chinese restaurants in the area,” recalls restaurant co-owner Karen Luo, whose husband Adam was a chef back in China. “He wanted to bring authentic Chinese cuisine to the area, so locals don’t have to go all the way to Richmond, B.C. for a good-quality meal.”
While Adam is the culinary talent behind the family-owned and operated restaurant, Karen takes care of the front-of-house, ensuring the dining experience matches the quality and authenticity of the dishes offered.
Hereon Chinese Cuisine opened during the Chinese Spring Festival in 2014, which Karen admits was a bit hectic. Still, the restaurant couldn’t have opened at a better time because it exposed their new establishment to a host of new customers. “We’ve really improved the service and the food has always been delicious,” says Karen. “We have a lot of regular guests who come here every week.”
