First impressions mean a lot to customers but they also mean a lot to potential employers. So, when Andjelija Perdic showed up in 2012 to interview for a position with Darlene Shapiro, owner of Relax Spa & Beauty Bar, she was hoping to make a good first impression. That's just what she did — Andjelija, or Angie to friends, was hired on the spot and now works alongside Darlene. But it’s the impression that Darlene and the business left on her that speaks volumes.
“I had just finished [esthetics] school and I wanted to find a job in the field right away,” Angie explains. “And when I came in there was just something about this place. You come in and you do feel relaxed. And I met Darlene for the first time and she was so happy and so chatty. Darlene began an impromptu interview and “Immediately we started cracking jokes,” Angie remembers. “It was just like, once you come into a place and you are comfortable, and it’s such a positive environment, it doesn’t matter what you come in here with, you are bound to leave with a totally different energy. Darlene, she radiates that.”
For Angie, it was the perfect fit. She'd gotten into esthetics thanks to the encouragement of her late grandmother, who once told her: "You get so happy when you do your friends’ nails or your friends’ eyebrows. You really enjoy yourself." Angie realized she needed to love her work, and at Relax, she understood that would happen.
