i need to have my jerk fix at least once a week and this is the best spot in Mississauga - trust me i've tried everything. don't expect the best service or atmosphere - that's not because they are rude or not nice, just seems like a lot of people are going in and out. Also, a few times they've mixed up my order, so make sure they get it exactly right.
I've also noticed a few times they over salted, but that's a few times in the many many times i've been there. Overall would highly recommend this spot.
We showed up 15 minutes AFTER they closed and they still opened up to serve us, they did it with a smile and never made us feel like what we were, keeping them from closing up! We ordered take out as once away from the cheerful welcoming staff the place was a bit dull and simply decorated. But we so pleased we returned on our way out of town for more! Its the only place in Canada that I have gotten Doubles that TASTE like Trini doubles! The goat, the duck the ahloo pies and the price.... all amazing! Wish we lived closer the Mississauga.
Upon reading some of these reviews, I decided to check it out as it is fairly close-by to where I live.
Cashier and other people who worked there seemed cheerful, friendly! So that was nice to see.
There were Specials listed in various places, left, centre, and written on a whiteboard, to the right of the counter. So if you don't pay attention, you could miss them!
I was happy to see that there was a $3 Special of mini roti/rice with various meat options. Today, only the dalpuri option was available, so that's what I ordered. Size was approx. 3.5" x 4", more than enough for me!
Dalpuri wasn't flaky, but more on the chewy side. I ordered the goat which was bone-in. Gravy was quite salty. (To me, roti always seems to be on the saltier side, so I'm not sure if this is "normal".) There was good heat in it tho'.
Again, roti is not something I would order if I was watching my sodium levels.
Prices are standard for roti, ~$8 large Boneless Chicken, but remember to scan the Specials that surround the cash.
The Mini Roti option is good as a snack, but I still prefer Bara's. Their dalpuri roti is flakier, not "chewy" and not as salty. I'd be willing to try Leela's again though!
