Imagine using your smartphone to start your cottage’s heating system a few hours before you get there, or making sure you turned the lights or the oven off with the touch of a screen. Backtrack to the early 2000s and the mere idea of being able to do so seemed straight out of a science fiction movie. Today, it’s within everyone’s reach.
‘’We’re on the leading edge of home automation technologies,’’ says Stephen deWeerd, who co-owns Brentview Electronics along with his father, John. ‘’Thanks to these, you can control pretty much everything in your home using your smartphone: heating, air conditioning, TV and audio systems, but also security gates, entrances, lighting, cameras, flood sensors. You name it; it can be controlled with your phone.’’
Despite being very advanced on the home automation front, Brentview Electronics still distributes consumer electronics such as television sets and home audio systems, always offering its customers products at the forefront of technology. ‘’I’m very excited about OLED televisions, which are the new big thing in televisions — they’re as thin as a pencil and offer the best picture quality we’ve ever seen,’’ Stephen says with enthusiasm.
