During the rough Toronto winters, your skin can take quite a beating and could use some TLC. To ensure you always look as good as possible, whether you’re fending off the consequences of winter or getting your body ready for the beach, Seda Skin is there for you. Vania Veras and Teresa Pimenta have run the spa together since they opened the space in 2007. “It was something that I had always wanted to do,” says Vania, “and since I moved to Canada, I thought, ‘why not start fresh with something new?’”
For many people, arriving in a new country is laden with new tasks – learning the culture and customs, getting established, growing roots and becoming part of a community, finding work – but Vania is an enterprising self-starter. For her, there was no choice to sit around and wait for something to happen: she had a passion for the spa industry and she pursued it. “I always liked this industry,” she says, “so that was a big reason why I came into it. And for the opportunity to make people happy and to help them feel better.” With that passion at the forefront, Vania set about taking the necessary steps to make her dream come true: a formal college education, various placements and then studying the business of the industry. “You have to have experience,” she says. “…And of course, every time you work with a spa line – a product or any kind of machine – you have to be trained on it.”
