Dust off your cowboy boots and get ready to indulge in some Alberta beef. In honour of the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR), which takes place November 11 to 15 at Rexall Place, and Farm Fair International, local restaurants are serving up country-inspired dishes from now until November 15, 2015. These are just some of the fantastic, unique dishes available – all guaranteed to make you shout ‘yee-haw!’
Take the edge off after a long day at Farm Fair with Woodwork’s rodeo week cocktail special. The Campfire Rambler cocktail consists of High West Campfire whiskey, vermouth and maraschino liqueur.
Known for their fine French cuisine, this downtown hotel offers a classy take on Western cuisine with their dish: A flat iron steak sandwich with bourbon horseradish butter and au jus.
Sip on one (or both!) of their rodeo-inspired signature drinks during the CFR. They’re pouring Western Wildrose Barracks on draught and mixing up the Rodeo Smirnoff double black Caesar.
They’re serving up a classic country dish: Chicken and ribs. Tuck into barbecued baby back ribs with a half chicken smothered in Jack Daniel’s sauce, made in-house. It comes with a side of coleslaw, naturally.
This old-school steakhouse is sticking with what they know best for their rodeo week special. They’re preparing a cowboy bone rib eye with chuck wagon baked beans and twice stuffed potatoes on the side.
As one of the fanciest, most historic hotels in Edmonton, you may not associate the Hotel Mac with cowboys and rodeos, but they’re still getting in on the CFR action with some specials. They’re cooking up wonton nachos with braised pork cheeks, scallions and wasabi aioli and a chorizo sausage with beef chili, smoked cheddar and mustard crème fraiche.
Located on the corner of Jasper Avenue and 109 Street, this restaurant and bar will serve a seven-ounce oven-roasted AAA sirloin steak with crispy red potatoes, seasonal vegetables and red wine gravy. Pair it with one of their craft beers or one of the many wines they have on tap.
Although they normally serve globally inspired cuisine, Lazia is sticking closer to its Alberta roots with their Best of the West special item. They’re serving a barbecue bison short rib with Manchego cheese soft polenta, sautéed root vegetables and an orange, honey and chipotle barbecue sauce.
This pub is serving a home-style comfort dish: Beef stew. It comes with Yukon gold potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and a cob of corn with heaps of butter, obviously.
