Some people probably think that Edmonton wouldn't be the best place for vegan options. But, you'd be surprised! There are an abundance of places around the city that have delicious vegan fare.
A new addition to 124th Street, this all-vegan bar serves incredible eats like D'anjou pear waffles with jerk chick'n, Cajun burgers, gluten-free gorditas and, my favourite, green onion cake donairs. You won’t find food like this anywhere else in the city. If you want to support "local,” this is the place to do it. They carry beers from local brewers, Alley Kat and Yellowhead, and source produce from area farmers.
I first tried Narayanni’s on a Tuesday on their vegan buffet night, which is held once a month. I was surprised at how huge the buffet was! It’s a pretty good deal at $20 for so much selection. The buffet consists of delicious South African Indian cuisine. When it’s not vegan night, their regular buffet has lots of vegetarian options.
This popular café has the best Chai latte in the city! It’s my favourite place to go for a falafel sabji wrap and vegan cupcakes. They have many vegetarian and vegan options, including vegan butter chicken, amazing chana masala and even raw cake! Their menu is labeled so it’s easy to identify which dishes are vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free.
Loma House serves up affordable vegetarian and vegan Chinese style meals that are really filling. It's a nice place to meet up with a friend for some tea and tasty dim sum. Frozen take home options are available too. Plus, they offer super friendly service!
This café is a beautiful, bright, trendy space with excellent vegetarian and vegan food. They've got an awesome variety and offer everything from green juices, vegan baked goods (their cinnamon buns are out of this world), green onion cakes, tofu scrambles, curry and amazing pho. If you're hoping for a quiet cafe to enjoy your meal, this might not be the best spot, as it's usually quite busy and the music is on the louder side.
When you visit Padmanadi, you are welcomed as if you're one of the family. The owner and the staff are so friendly, you’ll leave with a smile. Their 100 per cent vegan menu takes inspiration from a blend of Indonesian, Chinese, Thai and Indian cuisine. A few of my favourite dishes are crispy chicken strips, ginger beef and their famous curry chicken – it’s oh so good. Seriously. You have to try it!
