Edmonton Downtown Dining Week takes place from March 11 to 20, 2016 at a variety of fantastic restaurants. For 10 days only, sample multi-course meals at some of downtown’s best restaurants for jaw-dropping prices. These are 10 of the top restaurants offering decadent dinners for the special price of only $48.

Blue Plate Diner

This homey local diner is known for their local, seasonal dishes and variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. For their executive dinner, there will be three decadent courses. First, sample vodka and beet cured B.C. sockeye salmon with house-made fennel crackers and horseradish crème fraiche. For the main entrée, enjoy seared Alberta duck breast with wild mushroom and boar bacon barley risotto, charred Brussels sprouts and a chokecherry demi glaze. A trio of tarts with locally sourced berries, whipped Alberta goat cheese, honey and walnuts will be the fancy finish to the feast.

La Ronde

Edmonton’s only revolving restaurant, La Ronde, will serve a spectacular three-course dinner with a view that can’t be beat. For the first course, savour mushroom chowder, made with wild Alberta mushrooms. Then, dive into maple and black pepper baked salmon, which comes with lemon sage butter sauce, grilled fingerling potatoes and seasonal vegetables. For the final course, feast upon a lemon raspberry tart (if you have any room left, that is).

Lux Steakhouse & Bar Ltd

Lux is a steakhouse with a few surprises up its sleeves. For your appetizer, choose between beef carpaccio with pickled mustard seeds, truffle aioli, celery leaves and shaved Parmesan or a tomato and avocado salad, made from heirloom tomatoes, avocado, red onion and basil oil. Next up is either a six-ounce sirloin with jumbo prawns, served with truffle lobster mac ‘n’ cheese with Béarnaise sauce or poppy seed gnocchi, with cold pressed canola oil, lemon, chives, egg, peas and pearl onions. For dessert, indulge in miso sugar doughnuts, made with brown sugar, red miso, orange chocolate ganache and sponge toffee.

Wildflower Grill

There is no shortage of options at this elegant, romantic restaurant, located inside the Matrix Hotel. To start your three-course meal, choose between soup du jour, potato gnocchi, mixed vegetable salad or garlic prawns. For the main event, there are multiple options: wild Pacific salmon, braised beef short rib, chimichurri chicken, Moroccan lamb shank or three mushroom ravioli. Finish your delightful dinner with either panna cotta or sticky toffee pudding.

Zinc Restaurant

The Art Gallery of Alberta’s in-house restaurant is the perfect setting for a romantic dinner. The three-course dinner begins with cold smoked salmon, served with red onion, capers and lemon. Then, tuck into an orange fennel brined turkey breast with bog chutney, whipped potatoes and green pea puree. Top off the meal with a decadent dessert of maple syrup crème brûlée, Ontario tree fruit compote and Chantilly cream.

This tiny tapas spot is hard to get into, so book well in advance! They will serve a four-course extravaganza for Downtown Dining Week, starting with Cojondongo, consisting of grape tomatoes, peppers, Castelvetrano olives, croutons, smoked B.C. rock fish and sherry vinaigrette. Next, tuck into prawn ceviche, with shallots, jalapeno, smoked sturgeon aioli, microgreens and baby arugula salad. For the main event, there’s roast pork belly, served with parsnip puree, five spice beurre blanc and bell pepper salsa. For the final course, sample some dried cherry bread pudding with bourbon ice cream and brandy snap tuille.

Sorrentino's Bistro-Bar

This three-course meal will appeal to seafood fans. For the appetizer, pick either a seafood lover insalata, made with tiger prawns, calamari, clams, mussels, scallop cherry tomatoes, olive oil, arugula and lemon juice or a cabbage and porchetta salad, drizzled with honey mustard dressing. The main event features black apron beef short ribs, made from 72-hour slow cooked ribs, beetroot risotto, goat cheese and spring onions or pan-fried sable fish with an amaretto and pumpkin orange emulsion, creamy clams and sea asparagus. Sample a wild berry tart with meringue crumble and Bailey’s lemon cream and sherry sauce for dessert.

Allegro Italian Kitchen

A three-course Italian feast awaits you at Allegro. Begin with buffalo mozzarella with avocado, vine ripe tomatoes and roasted peppers, tossed in extra virgin olive oil and a balsamic reduction or Insalata Allegro, made with mixed greens, pine nuts, raisins, feta cheese and tomatoes, drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette. For the main course, choose between Veal Pizzaiola with capers, oregano, crushed chili peppers in a marinara sauce with penne pasta and veggies or Pollo Limone, featuring pan-seared chicken and tiger prawns in a lemon and butter white wine sauce, served over butter cheese risotto and vegetables. For dessert, enjoy classic tiramisu.
