A North American staple, the milkshake is a childhood right of passage. The real shakes (not the pre-frozen kind you get at fast food joints), are made with hand-scooped, real ice cream and real milk (read: full fat, full flavour). Visit any one of these places listed below for some of the best milkshakes ever. Don’t forget the straw and the cherry on top.

Route Ninety Nine

1
8820 99 St NW, Edmonton AB T6E 3V2

It’s no secret that this place doesn’t serve up any frills when it comes to your milkshake. The flavours are pretty, well, vanilla, but sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered. A traditional vanilla or chocolate milkshake - no bells and whistles. Simple and good, every time.

Jacks Burger Shack

2
130-15 Perron St, St. Albert AB T8N 1E5

A little bit of a drive outside the downtown core, you won’t regret it. When I come here, I can never decide which shake to get. Try their Nutella shake. Who doesn’t love Nutella and everything it stands for? They had me at Nutella. The black and white milkshake’s deliciousness and intrigue are found in its simplicity – just vanilla ice cream with chocolate milk. And, of course, the Italian stallion – a tribute to Sylvester Stallone - is also a favourite.

Soda Jerks

3
17520 100 Ave NW, Edmonton AB T5S 2S2

Options, options and more options. Soda Jerks made our list of best milkshakes in the city not only because of the variety they offer but because we also like a little something extra in our shakes. From vodka to rum and whiskey to tequila, you’ll never look at milkshakes the same again. Try the piña colada with a shot of rum.

Delux Burger Bar

4
9682 142 St NW, Edmonton AB T5N 4B2

It’s probably not your go-to for milkshakes, but trust me, their spiked shakes for grown-ups are pretty scrumptious. If you’re going for the after-dinner shake, I like the Night Rider, perhaps because of my love affair with all things Oreo cookies. Kahlua, crème de cocoa, Oreo cookies and vanilla bean ice cream make this my fav shake.

Commodore Restaurant

5
10712 Jasper Ave NW, Edmonton AB T5J 2A7

This restaurant has been around since the ‘40s and the decor still reflects the old timey feel. They offer a truly authentic experience with huge portions, diner stools at the bar and real ice cream. You can’t get a better milkshake than this, and, for less than $4.

On a cold, snowy Edmonton night, nothing says lovin’ like a cup of hot chocolate. It’s no surprise this drink was originally dubbed the “elixir of the gods.” Regardless of the variety you select, or whether you opt for the simplest hot chocolate on the menu, all I can say is ... don’t forget the marshmallows.
You don’t have to travel to Paris to have a true fine-dining experience; you can enjoy an upscale dinner, complete with a five-course meal and fine wine, right here at home. Victoria is a fine-dining destination with an excellent reputation – where talented chefs enjoy crafting delicious gourmet dishes from fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Paired with a nice cup of coffee or topped with a scoop of ice cream, pie is unbeatable comfort food. And yet it faces stiff competition from cupcakes as the city’s dessert of choice. Well, pie is fighting back with old fashioned deliciousness as well as new and tantalizing flavours.
