Great dining exists on both sides of the River Valley, meaning you don’t have to head downtown to enjoy a delicious meal. You don’t even have to travel as far as Whyte Avenue; Southside residents are within spitting distance of a bevy of fantastic restaurants.
This Indian restaurant is elegant, with touches of glam in the décor. But it’s the food that really makes it stand out, despite its somewhat hidden location just off of Ellerslie Road. The weekly buffet is open at lunch and dinner, and features fantastic items, such as mouth-watering butter chicken. The menu includes some of their best dishes, such as the mango chicken curry. It will leave a lasting impression on your taste buds.
This tiny Thai spot has a few tables but is perhaps best known as a takeout joint. It’s located in Summerside, and is a popular place to pick up food after shopping at the nearby retail stores. That said, the spicy Thai green curry is so good that it also makes it a destination for those who don’t live on the south side.
An Indian restaurant with a solid reputation in the city, this spot is also located on 34 Avenue. People drive from all over to devour their buffet or sample their menu. The tandoori chicken, in particular, is very popular, but you can’t go wrong with traditional butter chicken. Fresh naan bread seals the deal, every time.
If you like fondue, you’ll go nuts for The Melting Pot. It is often a date night or special occasion restaurant for couples but single ladies need to get their fill of melted cheese sometimes, too. The dessert fondue is spectacular but really you can’t go wrong with anything you order here.
There are several locations throughout the city, including this one on Ellerslie Road. Steak fiends on the south side rejoiced when it opened, as it provides basically the only Southside alternative to The Keg for a delectable piece of beef, grilled to perfection.
