Mexican spots in Edmonton that’ll make you scream “ole!”

Désolé, le contenu de cette page est uniquement disponible en anglais.

From fast food Mexican joints to tequila bars, Edmonton has a nice little variety of south-of-the-border restaurants. Margaritas, tacos, flautas, chimichangas and more offer your taste buds something unlike anything else in Alberta.

Tacos On Whyte

1
8123 104 St NW, Edmonton AB T6E 4E4

This restaurant is truly a little taste of Mexico. The nachos bowl is so incredible you won’t want to share it. The cheese is perfectly spread out on all the chips, tempting me to get a second order. If it wasn’t for my beef chimichanga, I just might have. The grilled garlic prawns are enormous - these jumbo shrimp are perfection on a plate. And of course, order a bottle of Jarritos, the infamous Mexican soda.

Julio's Barrio

10450 82 Avenue NW, Edmonton AB T6E 2A2

Tequila Thursday is our favourite day of the week. Start with the sopa de tortilla. A homemade tomato broth soup with feta cheese, tortilla strips, avocado and cilantro. I love the stuffed jalapenos. But if you can’t decide, the fiesta sampler gives you a little bit of everything. Julio’s also offers a variety of salsa from mild (salsa chimole) to the nuclear salsa (insanely hot!).

Burrito Libre Restaurants Inc

8525 112 St NW, Edmonton AB T6G 2L7

Mexican fast food for those on-the-go days. Create your own burritos, bowls, tacos or quesadillas. My favourite is the burrito bowl; it’s basically a burrito sans the tortilla, with honey chipotle chicken and shrimp (that’s right, I mix it up).

El Cortez Tequila Bar and Kitchen

4
8230 Gateway Blvd NW, Edmonton AB T6E 4B2

They offfer a variety of amazing tequilas, mezcal and stool, not to mention their slew of margaritas. And, so you don’t drink on an empty stomach, try the puerco adobo (chopped pork) with mango, sweet pepper and crispy onions. And, their guacamole may just be the best in the city.

The Three Amigos

5
4035 106 St NW, Edmonton AB T6J 2S3

With a one-man mariachi band playing, you’ll be sure to enjoy this truly Mexican gem. Best lime margaritas and homemade salsa and chips in town. The burritos, though small, are so delicious you’ll want to order a few.

El Rancho Spanish Restaurant

6
11810 87 St NW, Edmonton AB T5B 3M9

This restaurant fuses Mexican and Salvadoran cuisine. The house-made mole sauce, fresh tomato salsa and spicy pickled cabbage all taste like perfection. The pupusa, cheese and pork stuffed in a tortilla, is divine. Don’t forget the deep fried ice cream for dessert – it’s a real Mexican treat.

Ajutla Restaurant

7
11302 107 Ave Nw, Edmonton AB T5H 0Y3

It’s a small little joint but the food is great. We can’t get enough of it. The mixed pupusa are phenomenal – they’re probably the reason people keep coming back. The cabbage slaw is also great.

On a cold, snowy Edmonton night, nothing says lovin’ like a cup of hot chocolate. It’s no surprise this drink was originally dubbed the “elixir of the gods.” Regardless of the variety you select, or whether you opt for the simplest hot chocolate on the menu, all I can say is ... don’t forget the marshmallows.
You don’t have to travel to Paris to have a true fine-dining experience; you can enjoy an upscale dinner, complete with a five-course meal and fine wine, right here at home. Victoria is a fine-dining destination with an excellent reputation – where talented chefs enjoy crafting delicious gourmet dishes from fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Paired with a nice cup of coffee or topped with a scoop of ice cream, pie is unbeatable comfort food. And yet it faces stiff competition from cupcakes as the city’s dessert of choice. Well, pie is fighting back with old fashioned deliciousness as well as new and tantalizing flavours.
