The great thing about noodles is how universal and international it is. In almost all cuisines around the world, there is some sort of noodle or pasta dish. Here is a list of different kinds of noodles from different kinds of cuisines in the world, each with its own twist.
When I think about Chinese food, it’s usually Western-Chinese food, like sweet and sour pork or ginger beef. Even dim sum comes to mind from time to time. Hand-pulled noodles are a big part of Northern China, and there’s a restaurant in south Edmonton that definitely does it justice! Noodle Feast serves delicious hand-pulled noodles, in a variety of different ways and is definitely worth a try.
Thai food is one of my favourite cuisines. They have great and flavourful curries, and amazing noodle dishes. And, when it comes to Thai food, Syphay is definitely my favourite. Pad Thai is a noodle dish that is often associated with Thai cuisine. It comes with flavourful noodles, and comes in a variety of ways. However, my favourite dish from Syphay would have to be their lo mein!
When you think noodles and pasta, Japanese places don’t usually come to mind. But, eating the carbonara udon at Izakaya Tomo might change your way of thinking! Japanese cuisine, particularly in Tokyo, actually has a very interesting take on typical Italian pasta dishes! They take these pastas and put their own twist on it. Definitely a unique and fun experience!
Though Korean food is usually known for their barbecue, they also have a lot of other dishes to offer, too. One of my favourite Korean dishes would have to be Cha Jiang Myun, a thick noodle dish that is typically served with a black bean sauce. It has a nice sweet and savoury flavour. B-Bim-Baab does this dish particularly well, and it’s a great place to try if you’re on the industrial side of Edmonton.
Shanghai 456 is one of my favourite Chinese restaurants. As with most Chinese places, they have a relatively large menu. One of the things they really do well here are noodles! They offer a lot of different kinds of noodles, from noodle soups to noodle stir-fries. One of my favourite dishes is their namesake Shanghai noodles, which is a great option for first-timers.
When you think pasta or noodles, Italian cuisine definitely comes to mind. They pretty much dominate the pasta scene! One of my favourite places to get pasta is Ragazzi Bistro Italiano. They have many different kinds of pastas dishes, so there are many options to choose from. One of my favourite dishes is the spaghetti alla carbonara! Delicious!
A lot of people associate Vietnamese Cuisine with pho. Yes, pho is a tasty noodle soup dish, but a dish that is often overlooked at Vietnamese restaurants is the vermicelli noodle dish. Pho Hoan Pasteur does these dishes particularly well. There are a lot of variations, each with flavourful kinds of meat and toppings. This is definitely one of my favourite Vietnamese dishes.
