We’re not talking about chicken of the sea here; we mean shrimp, scallops, calamari, oysters, mussels, crabs and lobster - the good stuff, the food of kings. And, even though Edmonton is landlocked, far, far away from any ocean, there’s still plenty of amazing seafood restaurants that serve up some great fare.
Café Amore is a family-owned and operated traditional Italian restaurant with a modern twist. Specializing in seafood and pasta, they have a live lobster tank so you can pick your own. The food is fresh, tasty and full of love. If you’re looking to share, try the king pescatore platter, with a full Atlantic lobster. Alternatively, you can build your own seafood (or seafood pasta) plate by selecting the seafood of your choice, along with the sauce and pasta. You are only limited by your imagination.
This is a good ol’ fashioned East Coast pub-style restaurant. They have all of the seafood creations you dream about, such as bacon-wrapped scallops, PEI mussels, and calamaritime (calamari, Maritime style). Their seafood chowda’ is pretty great - rich, creamy and bits of seafood in every bite.
Vons might be a steak house, but the seafood here is so plentiful here, it’s all about sharing. Dishes such as mushroom Neptune bake, seared red tuna and crabshack oysters are just for starters. How about a seafood platter for two, or a crab dinner? You’ll think you died and went to the east coast. They also have a buck a shuck special Monday to Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and all night Sundays in their oyster bar.
A nice, simple, and tasty restaurant, Joey’s is definitely all (and only) about seafood. Their classic dishes include the Cajun combo with Pacific blackened snapper, crab and shrimp, or the most decadent shrimp and lobster sauce fettuccine you’ve ever tried.
A lovely Portuguese restaurant in the Boardwalk Building downtown, Sabor serves up some great seafood à la Portuguese. Start with a classic lobster bisque and the octopus and mussels salad with red wine vinaigrette, followed by the lobster risotto or the bacalhau, a boneless Portuguese-style salt cod with a white wine cream sauce. Divine.
