The tastiest spots in Edmonton to enjoy gelato

Gelato is Italy’s frozen gift to mankind. It’s sweet, creamy and refreshing without being heavy. These Edmonton establishments serve up some of the best gelato in the city.

Geppetto's Gelato

1
18 Muir Dr, St. Albert AB T8N 1G3

This tiny gelato shop has brought delicious Italian ice cream to St. Albert, where they scoop out a variety of Pinocchio Italian Ice Cream flavours, to the delight of their customers. Pinocchio gelato is made right here in Edmonton, and flavours range from salted caramel to passion fruit. For a real treat, get your favourite flavours in a waffle cone.

Da Capo Cio Bianca

2
104-8135 102 St NW, Edmonton AB T6E 4A4

This Italian espresso bar scoops out premium gelato by the bucketful (OK, not really, but I wish). But this icy Italian treat is made in-house at Da Capo, so it probably wouldn’t be too hard to get your hands on an actual bucketful of it. They do serve it not only by the scoop but also in one litre containers, so plan to stock up. In the meantime, enjoy a Caffe Affogato – gelato and espresso making a sweet, caffeinated baby in your cup.

Block 1912 Cafe

3
10361 82 Ave NW, Edmonton AB T6E 1Z9

Block 1912 is located next to a Dairy Queen and yet they are still always busy, so you know that their frozen delights are good. Their raspberry gelato is creamy, decadent and so flavourful it’s like you’re eating the berry fresh from the patch. The elegant, European vibe of this spot makes it a lovely place to spend an evening, just trying flavour after flavour of ice-cold gelato.

Lazio Italian Cafe

4
15363 97 St NW, Edmonton AB T5X 5V3

This Italian coffee bar offers both sorbetto and gelato but it’s their list of gelato flavours that will win you over. They have everything from panna cotta gelato to chocolate hazelnut to mango coconut marble. Embrace your inner child and go for pink bubble gum or orange creamsicle. They also do seasonal flavours, including eggnog and pumpkin pie. So yummy you’ll order enough to keep you eating gelato all year.

Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut

5
10103 124th St NW, Edmonton AB T5N 1P5

Located on the bend on Jasper Avenue, just as it turns into 124 Street, it can be easy to miss Cococo Chocolatiers. But you’ll want to keep an eye out for it next time you’re in the neighbourhood, so you can stop in for an ice-cold treat. They have a ton of gelato flavours – mango is my favourite but chocolate is their signature. After all, they do have access to plenty of Bernard Callebaut chocolate, known as some of the best around.

In April 2016, Conde Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Awards for the Best Pizza in the World: The Top 14 Cities for Pizza placed Edmonton at number eight on the list. With a diverse number of fantastic pizzas to choose from, including hand-tossed, wood-fired pies with white or red sauce and fun toppings ranging from pineapple to pine nuts, you're sure to find one you adore. Buon appetito!
