Opening its doors in 2010, Tres Marias Food Market established itself as a neighbourhood Mexican deli and grocery store in Marda Loop. Since then, the independent grocer's reputation has spread throughout the city. Be it fresh, hot enchiladas to eat in, or frozen tamales to take home, all are made in the market's kitchen with healthy, local and organic ingredients. This is authentic Mexican food that doesn't skimp on quality and nutrition.
It all started because Aurora and Alejandro Orozco couldn’t get real Mexican tortillas when they moved here in 2001. “What really impacted us was the Mexican food,” says Aurora. The local lack of it was their impetus to launch Tres Marias. “You couldn’t even find tortillas. They were like napkins. We decided that Calgary needed some good tortillas and started with a facility making tortillas.”
Tres Marias tortillas and salsas are now sold in a number of local grocery stores, but the market's beginnings were humble. “We started selling directly to the people at the Calgary Farmers' Market,” adds Alejandro. “That’s when we realized that they really liked the product.”
