Descending the steps into Gastown's Guilt & Company is like taking a walk into the past.
Its intimate atmosphere (only 89 seats), exposed brick and low ceilings are reminiscent of a jazz-age speakeasy — if said speakeasy also happened to feature devilish cocktails and an eclectic mix of some of the hottest musical and performance acts in the city. Whether it's jazz, reggae, swing or even burlesque, belly dance or circus acts, the performers who grace the Guilt & Company stage are as diverse as the city they call home.
“Live music is the cornerstone of our entire operation,” explains Tonye Aganaba, the venue's marketing and promotions coordinator and booking agent, “From Day 1, it was always intended to be a live music venue. More than anything, this place is made for musicians. It's made for creative people, people who love the arts, and that want to support them, and I think that's to be celebrated.”
