This little gem in Ancaster is really good. I have had many indan meals over many years in many countries and this ranked up there! It is not your usual run of the mill Indian food. The chef is very creative and the food was delicious. Service was attentive and friendly.
The nicest owners and servers definitely goes a long way, but when the food is this delicious, it just makes it a complete package. The butter chicken is tender and the sauce is delicious, the garlic naan is amazing, as is basically everything we ordered. I really recommend trying the butter chicken for those who are unfamiliar with Indian food as I was. You will not regret it.
I first went to India Village to try a type of food I had never had before. I went in a bit apprehensive but left very impressed and enjoyed the indian food very much! The restaurant itself is very tiny, even with their new expansion. It is decorated warmly and with traditional art and furniture of the culture. It's a bit cramped, but usually isn't too busy so it isn't claustrophobic. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted very warmly by the staff. The owner, an older lady, is one of the nicest people you'll meet. The staff is very attentive, respectful and friendly. Occasionally, there are some communication barriers when ordering (but that is part of the experience, isn't it?). The food is great, and priced extremely well. My friend and I shared a large meal and the bill was only around $20. The portions are very large and could feed way more people than recommended by the menu. The naan bread is to die for, as is the butter chicken. For someone new to indian food, or a veteran of it, India Village is a great place to go. Another interesting thing about this restaurant is that they offer cooking classes so people can learn some of their dishes - what a cool thing!
Mixed emotions about this place. While the service was fantastic, the food was bland and just mediocre. The staff was wonderful, so polite and always smiling. Of the four different dishes we ordered, they ALL tasted the same. It's like they're using the same base for all their dishes. My Kashmiri Chicken tasted identical to the Butter Chicken, all they did was sprinkle coconut and raisins on top. The rice was the only thing that was tasty. This was the most expensive Indian restaurant I've been to...WAY overpriced for the quality you get. I had high expectations from all the review I read on here.
Been many times and I'm relentlessly impressed with this restaurant. Their food is just incredibly delicious, so beautifully spiced and aromic! The atmosphere is colourful and cosy and they recently expanded so there is move room and privacy now. The service is usually great though they can get busy. Their vegetarian and vegan options are the best of any non-vegetarian place I've ever eaten at. I've dined here with many different people and their large menu really accomodates everyone- from vegan, to celiac to meatlover; everyone always leaves full and happy! I reccomend trying the chana masala if you like chickpeas, it has such an amazing blend of spices. Another favorite of mine is the Aloo Gobi Masala, the cauliflower is always tender without being mushy and the dish has a great ginger flavor. Of course you have to try the vegetarian delight appetizer platter, but it is filling. Oh well, I guess you'll have to take some home for tomorrow!
Delicious food, I get the Chicken Irani every time, it is so good! Very small restaurant so take-out is always a good option if they're full. Service is good when dining in, however, being put on hold immediately when calling to place an order is irritating. Overall, great place to eat or order from. Hopefully once their second location opens it will be easier to get a table!
India Village has a great menu with many delicious choices and huge portion sizes. I am vegetarian and I am overwhelmed with all of the dishes they have to offer! The restaurant is tiny, but the service is quick and I haven't had trouble being seated yet. My only complaint is that the waitress was being rather rude to a coworker while we were eating there one day, belittling her and pestering her after she had accidentally dropped some food onto the floor. Perhaps she was having a bad day, but save the bickering for later or do it somewhere else, not in front of the customers. Despite that incident, this has been the best indian food I have tasted, make sure to order the naan bread!
We enjoyed a variety of food from garlic Naan, to Chicken Korma, Butter Chicken and more and we found it to be fabulous. Tender chicken with fabulous sauces just melted in our mouths, included salad & potatoes on the dish. This food is fresh, flavourful and the service is first rate. The quaint space is set out comfortably and you can also take home treats as well. Definately worth a trip to India Village
The food is very good. Tasted fresh. The owners are terrific. We have been in several times with our friends and their kids... the owners were very good with the children. I love the cozy feeling of the tiny restaurant.
The best Indian food in Hamilton. The service is great and the food portions are pretty big. Will always go back!!
So I read the reviews on this site and I was a little apprehensive to come out at first. However after just my greeting at the door, my entire pre-consieved idea of this place was turned upside down. With Lisa generously explaining all the vegan dishes to me, and the welcoming smiles of the entire staff, I would say the experience was amazing prior to any food embracing my lips. I am not a food critic, but when the infusion of flavors like cardamon, garam masala, and chili's are so interwoven, you can't help but share in the love of expression ;p I recommend the garlic nan, and onion bhaji's to start, then follow up with some butter sauce (note: it's spicy, so go easy lol) on a bed of the sweetest smelling bismati rice ever. I know I will be seeing you there, if this is the order you place, cause I know you will be back again and again. Thank you for the amazing meal and wonderful insight!
I have read many good reviews about this restaurant before I went there to try it out. My experience with this restaurant was horrible. The food smelled and tasted like it was a leftover. It is just not fresh. And I have found the service was not as friendly as some reviews have said. I don't know why. Maybe they had a bad day. But it just make me doubt about the credibility of these reviews. Sadly I guess I will never trust these review any more but I guess I just have to try it out for myself. And if anybody happen to read my review or others about this restaurant, please do yourself a favor and try it for yourself. Because maybe the cook just had a bad day when I went there. It does not live up to its good review at all.
I've eaten here many, many times and every time it's delicious. I've dabbled allover the menu from the creamy Korma and Jalfrezi to the sizzling tandoor platters. Their naan bread is perfect, their samosas are seriously the best I've ever had; always fresh, the pastry is soo good. I almost forgot the chicken pakoras! Ask for the green chutney with these and get them on the spicier side - AMAZING! the Chef also makes his on Kulfi (indian icecream) in mango and pistaccio and they too are delicious. It's very surprising to me to see the review posted below, like maybe they went to a completely different restaurant? The place is family run and the owners are very sweet and attentive. I've always had excellent service, they always ask me how I like the spices and then if they are okay. I've eaten Indian food allover North American, England and Europe and this is seriously the best I've had. hope I can make the trek to India one day to try it there too!
I came here with an East Indian friend of mine. We love Indian food because of its spices. We have been to many Indian restaurants around town and this is the first visit here and it was a BIG mistake. I don't think they used fresh spices at all. We could taste it from the Masala..herb and spices in that dish was not fresh! Vindaloo curry was supposed to be hot and spicy but instead was totally tasteless. I don't think I ever come back here again because I think I can even cook better Indian dishes that this even though I am just an amateur. Neither the food nor service impressed us.
I have been to this restaurant so many times and love it every time. The food is made fresh to order to your taste which is great. I cant say enough about this restaurant and the food!! The korma shahi is amazing! a must try
