As many visitors would agree, this restaurant is probably one of the best in terms of AYCE sushi (flavour and variety), and one of the worst in terms of losing orders. We have been there many many times, and 10 times out of 10, they will bring you smaller orders. If you order 8 pieces of saba, you will probably get 4 or 6. Order 12, and you'll be lucky to get 8. This is not because the chef is tardy, but part of an orchestrated strategy by the restaurant to decide how much they think you can/will/should eat. This is different from, say, Echo sushi where they will ask you many times over of you're sure of your large order - but will ultimately bring your stuff. Having been there many times, we have mastered the art of how to get the best out of this joint. Our strategy is to order a large number of fewer items in the first order. For instance, put in 12 pieces of salmon sushi and 12 pieces of, say, white tuna. You will probably (if you're lucky) get 6 to 8 pieces of each. But as soon as the first order is given in, put in the second, even before the food arrives. It is a challenge to attract the attention of the wait staff to take your order, though. Although things could be better when the place is less crowded, which is, itself, a rarity. Will we go again? Absolutely. Why? Because, unfortunately for Toronto, this place is perhaps the best in terms of flavour/variety (although paling in comparison with AYCE places in other parts of the country/world). A tasty, but frustrating, eating experience. Recommended for those (such as myself) willing to use a solid strategy to beat the system. Happy to hear from others with ordering strategies. If the restaurant ownership is reading these comments, please consider instituting a penalty for uneaten pieces, but please please fill the orders you receive.
I have tried alot of different all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants and Ten-ichi is the top restaurant thus far. Two key things count: food and service. The service at other places seemed cold and unwelcoming, but Ten-ichi is the complete opposite. Being polite goes a long way!!! The food is awesome and they never serve you a huge amount unless requested because it's an all-you-can-eat and you're welcome to order more! One thing, never order pitchers of pop because it's flat and watered down. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the mango yogurt dessert and I always end up scarfing down 3 or 4 of those babies! I was so full that I couldn't stand up, so I rolled out instead (kidding!)
Great food. Order lots service is a bit slow. Make reservations on the weekend or expect to wait. Busy place! Worth the wait.
One of the best all-you can eat Japanese in town. I don't mind the wait coz it's so busy. People knows where to the good food is. They try their best to accomodate everyone. Great experience. A bit pricey but worth it ! Portions are a bit small so the trick is to quadruple your order from the start so you'll have time to enjoy your food while deciding for the next round.
I took my staff out to dinner at this restaurant last week and we were all totally amazed with our experience. Tepanyaki is an experience, not just a meal. The initial arrival of our food took slighty longer than anticipated, but once it started things never really slowed down. We did benefit from being there mid-week with not a huge amount of traffic in the restaurant. The food and service are spectacular. They constantly ensure your tea is full, and so is your plate. The moment you have not food left on order they inquire as to what else you would like. I almost felt like they were pushing us to eat more. Given that everything is made fresh to order this was unexpected. The staff were polite and accomodating throughout our 2 1/2 hour eating extravaganza. I made sure to tip far beyond the 10% included on the bill. All of my staff were new to the restaruant and they all commented that they would happily return with their families in the future. Definite must try.
