In the early 19th century, Bavarian brewers began experimenting with brewing techniques that involved storing their Biers in cold Bier cellars for prolonged periods, using bottom-fermenting yeast. In order to provide Bier to British soldiers stationed in Bombay, India, in the late 1700s, the brewer George Hodgson, decided to create a Bier to weather the sea voyage. The name Porter was first used in the 18th century because of this style of Bier’s popularity with dock and hotel porters. Originally created from a blend of Brown Ale, Pale Ale and “stale,” or well-matured Brown Ale, Porter has gone through many style and colour transitions over the years but has come to be known as a dark brown to black Bier with a nice roasted malt character. The term Stout was applied to stronger, darker versions. Stout flooded into Ireland from London and Bristol when a Dublin brewer named Arthur Guinness decided to fashion his own interpretation by blending Porter with some unmalted roasted barley, and in so doing produced a style known as Dry Irish Stout.

QUADRUPELS
Inspired by the Trappist brewers of Belgium, a Quadrupel is a Belgian-style Ale of great strength with bolder flavour compared to its Dubbel and Tripel sister styles. Typically a dark creation that ranges within the deep red, brown and garnet hues. Full bodied with a rich malty palate. Sweet with low bitterness and an ABV range of 9% to 13%.

Brewed by De Koningshoeven Brewery, the name meaning the “King's Gardens.” The land was donated by the Dutch king to monks who had moved north from the La Trappe Monastery in Normandy at the time of the French Revolution

We stopped in without a reservation on a Saturday night. They were able to get us a table after about 45 minutes or so, which was fine because we just stood around the bar and had a few drinks. The bartender was very entertaining. After dinner we stayed for dancing and listened to the band. We had an awesome time, music was good, food was great and the atmosphere was comfortable. Wasn't a whole lot of little teenyboppers running around. I would definately go back again.

You must make reservations at this place if you intend on going for dinner. I would have liked to sit on the patio, however, at 6pm on a Wednesday, it was already full. The bar area is large and tends to get very noisy after 9pm.
The service was excellent and our server was very knowledgeable about the beers and recommended a few to go with our meal which was most enjoyable.
The Cheese Fondue was excellent and was served with fresh bread, tomatoes and gherkins. The Free-Range Chicken was tasty, although a little dry. The Fresh Fish special happen to be a stew and my boyfriend doesn't like shrimp or mussels and they brought him the stew minus the shrimp and mussels and he enjoyed it immensely. To finish, we had the Belgian Chocolate Fondue which was amazing!! So good! The beer was fantastic throughout...we had 5 of the samplers (comes with 5 different beers) and one full pint of Steigl. The food was good, the experience was very enjoyable although not an everyday affair considering the meal came to $220 for 2 people.

Well, the three sausage halves appetizer combo....wow, never, ever had three sausage halves taste so completely flavourless. Thank god it cost like $9.00! I can get WAY better sausages for $1.99 at the grocery store and that's a pack of six. The main was good/better, but very small for the price....my wife felt the same way about hers. Stick to going for drinks.
