This was the best restaurant we have ever been to. The view of the entire city at night was spectacular and everything we ate including the bread (we bought a loaf from them it was so delicious) and the deserts homemade from scratch were mouth watering delicacies...the service was spectacular...the servers were wiping our table for crumbs in between each course. They had 3 different servers assisting us and they were all so helpful and polite. We had other plans that we cancelled for after our meal because it was so great that we ended up spending the entire night there and we can't wait to go back!!!
this is by far one the better upscale restaurants in the city. I have been numerous times with friends and have sat in both the pasta bar and dinning room. The service is always excellent and the food is always nothing but exceptional. Call a few weeks ahead to book your reservation and request a window seat in the dinning room as the view of the city is amazing. Strongly recommend the filet mignon, I am yet to have a more satisfying one in another restaurant.
A favorite of many good friends who appreciate fine dining, I was impressed on my first visit.
my husband and i celebrated our anniversary here....i can't say anything bad, we both absolutely loved our meals and had a nice quiet romantic evening!!! I don't understand the negative reviews!! Go and judge for yourself!!!
Have been to a fair amount of upscale restaurants, and this is BY FAR my favourite. Excellent food, excellent and attentive service (but done so well that you don't feel "watched like a hawk" either), and excellent decor and atmosphere. View is beautiful, location is remote, out of the way, and not noisy or busy (despite being in the city). One thing I liked is that the tables were very spacious and NOT ultra close to one another--you have a good amount of privacy (unlike most other fancy restuarants which crowd so many tables in, you are practically sitting with strangers!) All in all, HIGHLY recommended.
No stranger to fine dining, I was utterly amazed at how average Scaramouche is. The location is not ideal. It's not within walking distance of anything and is a car only kind of place. The decor is average (I can think of dozens nicer spots in the city to eat) The service is solid. For $1500 (for 9 people) I expect nothing less than exceptional. The food was awful (to be frank). The $22 lobster ravioli was salty and the dish just didn't mesh well. The $47 lobster main was supremely average. In short...my particular meal totaled $150 ($22 appetizer, $47 main, $13 chocolate tart, $17 port, $10 beer + tax/tip) and I've eaten FAR better for 1/3 of the cost in the city of Toronto. Scaramouche, frankly, is for people who just don't know any better. I'd give it a pass and head any of the other dozens of places in the city that have more atmosphere, better food and better prices.
It seems the only restaurant in Toronto not feeling the recession is Scaramouche, still packed everynight. Scaramouche has a very special place for me. It consistantly has great food, and service. It's like the servers can read your mind! I honestly don't understand the negative reviews. I've gone to plenty of upscale restaurants in Toronto, but every single one is compared to Scaramouche! Go there before they relocate at the end of this year, and savour the Scaramouche magic!
We called in advacne of 6 weeks for a reservation and specifically asked the concierge/valte/executive waiter whether the food is halal. We were promised that all offering for le gout are not halal at Scarmaouche sicne 1989. When at night we arrived for our family feast little Daphne smell the bison brier and declared 'non, papa c;est halal' mais bien sur we immediatelyt left and refused all offers of check clearance. be careful becasue Scaramouche deal in halal only. never coming back.
Scaramouche is our favourite sanctuary in Toronto. Pricy but not insultingly expensive. Classy but not stuffy. The excellent wine list is very reasonable compared to other upscale eateries in the downtown. The food is consistently great - the service is friendly and courteous. The view is always inspiring - an earlier reservation is always better than a later one if you hope to enjoy the scenery. Great place to watch for celebrities, especially during festival season. A bit out of the way from the downtown, but worth the cab ride. We have been regulars for more than 20 years. A uniquely Toronto experience.
We were seated at 9:00 even though we had made an 8:30 reservation several days in advance. Very rude and unprofessional, IMO.
I have longed to go to Scaramouche for years, and we were not disappointed. We needed gluten-free menu choices and wer assited by our server. The beef was cooked perfectly, vegetables crisp and lovely. We could not have any of the desserts on the menu so the server offered us fresh berries and a selection of sorbets...wondergul.
This was our third visit here in the last decade and a half. I do not understand why still all the hype for this place. Over 13 years ago, we had our first meal here, we absolutely loved it. Second meal was not as memorable. However, we decided to give it another chance for our anniversary. Now we find that portion size is miniscule and the flavours not so enticing. Is there a new chef running the kitchen? Our waiter was clueless. I specifically asked for decaffeinated tea with my dessert, as it was quite late in the evening. As I was pouring the hot water into the pot, my husband took a look at the cute box the teabag came from...luckily, he noticed that the waiter served me a caffeine-infused regular tea bag. I notified the clueless waiter and he took it away. I did not want another one. I was hoping that he would remove the cost of the $6.00 cup of tea (yes, that's right) from our bill. No, he did not, he still charged me for it and he was quite snooty when confronted with this oversight. He simply laughed and did not offer to remove it. Poor customer relations on his part. We let it go, why quibble over $6 when one is paying over $200 for a meal?! Moron. Patrons around our table were also complaining about the small portions and whispering that they were still hungry after their entrees. High prices that cover up a so-so meal and snooty waitstaff does not a great restaurant make. Perhaps, eliminating the bread server, the water pourer, the cutlery remover and extraneous staff would cut your overhead costs a bit. Thereby enabling your restaurant to serve slightly larger, tastier portions. We will not be returning to this pretentious place again. Don't waste your money, there are other fine dining establishments to enjoy in this city.
Always an excellent experience. Even though we did not get our requested table, nor our favorite waiter (Andrew) we still had an enjoyable time. Unfortunately, this particular Saturday was very busy and extremely noisy, for a long weekend! There was an unpleasant odor in the entire restaurant, somewhat musty...smelled like they may have had a flood.
The food, the atmostphere, the view: definitely a place to be seen and to go to pamper oneself. Perfect for a romantic evening for 2.
