Loved this place, the staff was very friendly, I liked the decor too. I've been to a wide range of Indian restaurants across the city and would rate the food at Sher E, among the highest. Very cool location in Greektown.
i don't eat indian food a lot but food here was pretty good. shrimp in curry was bit overcooked but i enjoyed warm fresh naan and curry was decent too.
I have now been here a few times and take it from me as a real foodie that you will not find better or more authentic indian food anywhere in Toronto. I love the service, variety on the menu and of course the amazing quality of the cooking!! Go to sher-e Punjab.....now!!!!
We have eaten at Sher E before and always enjoyed it but when we went for dinner last week there seemed to be even more flavor and we were very impressed with the deliciousness and wonderful flavors in the dishes we ordered. We found out that the cooks are from the mother land and the sauces are made fresh and simmer during the day for hours. The dishes appear to be small but don't be fooled, we were very full after and extremely satisfied. The wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. I wish they could bottle up their sauces b/c I would definitely buy some!!
I love it here and have been coming for years. My wife and I make this a once a month go to place for authentic and delicious Indian food experience. The service is great and the Singh's are excellent hosts making us feel special each time we come. Most recently we've found the food to be the best it's ever been.
We ordered delivery, and though the food was excellent the portions were beyond tiny. 5 small pieces of chicken floating in two cups of sauce? Wouldn't order again.
Recently I visited this restaurant with my wife and son. The food was very good. We could taste the authentic Indian spices used and the traditional Indian way the recipes were prepared. Overall, we enjoyed our eating experience very much.
I came to Sher e punjab for the first time a few weeks ago after hearing many great things from friends over the years. I can't believe I waited so long to check it out!! It is easily now one of my favourite Indian restaurants in the city and I will definitely be coming back regularly. Food is fresh and delicious. The sizzling platter was phenomenal. Naan was outstanding - hot, fluffy but not too doughy! Service was great too - fast and efficient. The atmosphere is also really nice.
I am unhappy mostly because i asked for as mild as possible and my food was very spicy. I felt bad but asked them to replace it. Still too spicy and neither were very tasty. I get this dish at several other restaurants and this one was not good at all. My friend's dish was not flavourful. In the past two weeks I've eaten at 3 other Indian places and have enjoyed the food much more. Too bad they didn't discount the food, i paid full price and didn't eat dinner! I think I am mostly upset that I had to pay full price for food I didn't eat.
loved the antique wall hangings while enjoying delicious food; just the right amount of spice :service was excellent and price was right . the Singh family are great hosts as well
I've been eating at the family run and operated Sher-e-Punjab for years and it's always been my tried and true 'go to' for really delicious, authentic Indian fare. The atmosphere and service is great and the food never disappoints! The naan is probably the best I've had in the city (fresh, fluffy and hot) and the dishes are always fresh and tasty. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Sizzling Platter are outstanding as well. The portion sizes are perfect for sharing and the prices very reasonable. The atmosphere is cozy and colourful. I highly recommend this restaurant and consider it one of my favourite places to go to in the city.
I'm quite surprised by all the excellent reviews for the food here, I have eaten in Indian restaurants allover North America and in the UK and found this to be one of the worst experiences as far as the food was concerned. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was fine, but for me the food was very bland (I had asked for somewhere between medium and hot), it didn't seem fresh or colourful or presented with any care. Everything was brown and seemed oily. The vegetable pakoras were fine, but everything else was a let down. It was also the first time my dining partner was having Indian food and I felt badly that this was their first experience with it. From the other reviews it seems like they have loyal customers and a kind family atmosphere, maybe they just need to pick up some slack in the food department.
Its a pretty nice and romantic place. The food portion is very small for the price they charge. Usually they give dessert but the last time I went, they did not give me any.
I just love everything about this iconic Danforth landmark! The food was absolutely addictive, the Singh family so friendly and efficient, and the ambiance: completely soothing and seductive. What's more, there is even a wonderful accessories and clothing shop just upstairs on the second floor - also run by the Singh family - for added gifts of the fineries of India. We will put this place on our A-list for sure!
We went to this restaurant because we had heard great things. The decor was nice. The food was pretty mediocre, and the price was higher compared to other Indian restaurants where you can get better quality and more quantity for less. Although the portions looked pretty small, Indian food is always quite heavy and it filled us up. Although I wouldn't mind going to this place again, I wouldn't go out of my way to suggest it.
I'm so confused by all these reviews. I am an indian food fanatic and this was the worst I've had in Toronto. I am trying to figure out if I was there on their bad day or if my standards are just high. The palak paneer tasted like the kind you get in the packages at the supermarket -- bitter, flavourless, almost sour... horrible. It was lukewarm and I had to force myself to eat it. Palak Paneer is one of my favorite dishes in the world. Weird.... maybe I'll give it a second shot, but I was really turned off the place.
I have been in many resturants in Toronto... Indian and other south-Asian. Location was good and I was impressed with reviews here. But I was quite surprised with the amount of meat served with the menu orders. It was 4-5 little pieces of meat in a bowl of soup (Buter Chicken). The food was veeery poor in taste and does injustice to the Indian menus. I guess the location and the amenities outweigh the quality!!!
An excellent dinner and experience. The samosas were particularly great. I'll be back VERY soon!
BEST FOOD IN THE WORLD! I live in Montreal now but i refuse to eat indian food anywhere on this planet if it's not from the Sher-E! I recommend this place to all, and the fact that it's family owned and operated adds to its charm.
Great Service. Great food. Clean and invinting atmosphere. No line up or wait time. I recommend the Butter chicken, Sizzling chicken, and Naan. I will definitely visit again.
