When Jennifer Jensen’s dog got sick with cancer, she and her husband started doing research into pet health and were shocked with what they discovered. “We realized how much garbage is going into pet food, but that there weren’t many natural options out there,” says Jennifer. “We saw the market was there at that time, so my husband and I put in a $13,000 order of dog food and it came to our house.” And thus began Vitality In Pets, a pet food distributor serving much of Western Canada.
Vitality In Pets started out of their garage at first, then had to move to a warehouse in the northeast and quickly expanded again. They are now working out of warehouse number three, and the future for all natural pet food looks bright. “The market has really changed since 2010. There is more selection out there, and the end consumer is more aware about what goes into the food,” says Jennifer. “Businesses are booming and popping up everywhere. I believe our industry is somewhat recession-proof.”
