For nearly two decades, Lonsdale Gallery, located in the heart of Toronto’s wealthy Forest Hill neighbourhood, has been presenting cutting-edge art exhibitions.
Founder and director Chad Wolfond states, “I exhibit work that draws the viewer in—work that people may remember when they leave the gallery. I want to facilitate and foster diverse talent and share with the public the challenges and joys art can bring.”
Chad is not an artist himself, but says he’s always been fascinated by the “creative process.”
“I opened Lonsdale to give artists an opportunity to expose their work. To me, this is a neighbourhood where people would be looking at art,” he says.
Launched in November 1995, Lonsdale Gallery operates year-round. “As a contemporary art gallery we show paintings, sculpture, photo-based work and installation,” says gallery assistant Jessica Butler. Admission is free and open to the public. Including Wolfond, the gallery employs four staff. While the gallery has a roster of artists, staff regularly seek out new talent. Exhibitions typically last from four to six weeks and often include an artist reception.
